About 120 farmers of Atakumosa East Local Government have benefited from the empowerment program of the council that was targeted at cocoa farmers and women.
Beneficiaries which were drawn from all the Wards across the local government were provided with materials to boost cocoa production, such as sprayers and chemicals for controlling cocoa pod disease. The women also went home with gas cookers.
The Chairman of the Council, Hon. Prince Femi Kujembola, while presenting the empowerment materials to the beneficiaries at a ceremony that took place at the Iperindo premises of the Local Government on Thursday 3rd September, 2020, said the idea is to empower real farmers and women to enhance cocoa production and also introduce some of the women to modern and easier way of cooking.
"The local Governments have roles to play in agricultural development and linkages between the Councils to agricultural programs and projects of the day should be strengthened for effective rural community involvement and participation." The council boss said as he also presented some of his achievements.
Highlighting his achievements, Hon. Kujembola made mention of the perimeter fencing of the Council premises, electrification projects involving Iperindo, Ilaye, Aasa construction of the collapsed bridge leading to the Council, numerous borehole projects etc.
