OSCOTECH Management Visits Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi, Seeks Support for Banking and Finance Anniversary

‎The Management of Osun State College of Technology (OSCOTECH), Esa-Oke, on a courtesy visit to Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi, has formally announced plans by the Department of Banking and Finance, Facullty of Management Sciences, to celebrate its anniversary and unveiled him as Patron of the department.

‎Leading the delegation, the Rector, Mr. S. A. Adewumi, described the Banking and Finance Department as the oldest department in the institution, noting that it was the pioneer department at the establishment of the College.

‎“We are here today on behalf of the oldest department of the College, the Banking and Finance Department, being the first department when the College was created. Today, the College has grown to about 36 departments,” the Rector stated.

‎He explained that the department is preparing for its anniversary celebration and sought Asiwaju Fasuyi’s fatherly support and guidance, while formally requesting him to serve as Patron.

‎In his response, Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi, speaking on behalf of himself and the Ijesa Community Development Assembly (ICDA), warmly welcomed the OSCOTECH management team. He described the College as one of the foremost development institutions in Ijesaland.

‎He called for appreciation of the vision of the founding fathers who conceived the idea of establishing a College of Technology in Esa-Oke, noting that the full significance of such an institution may not have been fully understood at the time.

‎According to him, Nigeria’s current socio-economic realities underscore the urgent need for technologists and skilled professionals more than ever before.

‎Drawing lessons from global development trends, Fasuyi referenced China’s rapid technological and infrastructural advancement over the past five decades. He noted that while countries like Nigeria were largely influenced by a certificate-driven educational system inherited from colonial rule, nations like China prioritised engineering, technology, and practical skills in governance and national development.

‎“Certificates alone cannot make meaningful impact in any society. The acquisition of skills and technical expertise remains the better option,” he said.

‎He urged OSCOTECH to position itself as a solution-driven institution, particularly by leveraging its location within an agrarian community. He challenged the College to develop technologies that would support agricultural production, processing, packaging, marketing, and distribution in Ijesaland.

‎Fasuyi further aligned his call with the development vision of the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, who he noted is championing agricultural revolution as a key priority for the region.

‎“When institutions are established, they must speak to their environment. They must justify their relevance beginning from their immediate community,” he added.

‎The visit reinforced the growing collaboration between OSCOTECH and key stakeholders in Ijesaland, particularly in driving innovation, technological advancement, and sustainable development.
