English language; key to understanding other core school subjects Says SUBEB boss, Famurewa




 


The Executive Chairman, Osun State Universal Basic Eduction Board,SUBEB, Hon. Ajibola Famurewa, has charged Junior Secondary School English Teachers  to be more dedicated to the teaching of  English language, saying that it is key to better understanding  of other  subjects in schools by students .


Hon. Famurewa stated this in a keynote address delivered at  Osogbo Grammar School hall, Osogbo  during a 4 Day capacity building training workshop organized for English Language and Literature in English teachers drawn from  Junior Secondary schools across the state of Osun.



The SUBEB Boss said  all  hands  must be on deck in this regard at ensuring that all students perform very well in English and other subjects to compliment the efforts of the  Governor,Mr Adegboyega  in the  education sector.


He implored all  participants at the workshop majorly teachers of both English language  and literature in English  to place high premium on teaching methodologies that will churn out brilliant students in all schools in Osun.


Earlier In his address of welcome ,the  Executive Secretary of the Board ,  Mr Adeoye Bakare lauded the State Government of Osun  on its unrelenting efforts at putting the basic education system on the right perspectives.



Just like Hon.Famurewa, Mr Adeoye also  called on participants to pay good  attention to the resource persons specially recruited for the workshop.


According to Mr Adeoye, no amount of time spent in classes by teachers would be worthwhile if their students are not favourably attuned to the understanding of English language which he described as cornerstone to understanding other subjects. 


In his remarks, the lead  resource persons, Professor Akinnaso,  commended the present administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola on its giant strides in Education.




Professor Akinnaso told the gathering that what teachers of public schools are presently enjoying in terms of acquiring  basic skills of knowledge and  training in Osun when placed side by side with other states  can not be overemphasized.


A Director, SUBEB, in charge of Junior School Affairs, Mrs Bola Adedire appreciated the timeliness of the training workshop.


Mrs Adedire declared  that the administration of Mr Adegboyega  Oyetola  is not only a student friendly government but  teacher friendly as well.

   



She pledged the commitment of teachers in the state of Osun to compliment the day to day gestures of government for a good and better education sector in Osun.


In attendance were SUBEB Directors and the team members of Professor Akinnaso.
