A large expanse of farmland belonging to Otunba Dr. Gabriel Emiola Ogunsanya, owner of FEGAGRO Farm, has been reportedly destroyed by roaming Fulani cattle in Ijeda-Ijesa, Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State.
The incident occurred between Wednesday and Thursday night, resulting in extensive damage to crops cultivated on the farm. According to reports, about 28 acres of maize and 10 acres of beans were completely destroyed. In addition, a five-acre plantation of young cocoa and plantain was also severely damaged.
The destruction has sparked concern among local farmers and residents, who described the incident as a major setback to agricultural investment and food production in the area.
Following the incident, operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at the Ijebu-Jesa Area Command, Oriade, swung into action and arrested three Fulani suspects in connection with the destruction.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue. Authorities have assured members of the public that appropriate steps will be taken to ensure justice and to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
The development adds to growing concerns over farmer–herder conflicts in parts of Osun State, with calls intensifying for stronger measures to protect farmlands and agricultural investments.
