Three-Year-Old Boy Sold By Mother For N410,000 Rescued by Police

The Adamawa State Police Command has successfully rescued a 3-year-old boy named Friday Okonkwo, who was allegedly sold for N410,000 by his 24-year-old mother, Blessing Okonkwo.

According to SP Suleiman Nguroje, the Police Public Relations Officer, the incident came to light when Hauwa Lawan from Wubirgo Askira, UBA, Borno State, reported her son missing to the police. Upon investigation, it was discovered that Blessing Okonkwo, initially identified as the child’s aunt, is actually his biological mother. Hauwa Lawan, who claimed to be the mother, is, in fact, the grandmother of the child.

Blessing Okonkwo, residing in Kabang Ward, Mubi South, allegedly became pregnant in 2019 following a relationship with a man named Aboi from Anambra State. Misleading her family, she purportedly enrolled the child in school in Mubi while secretly arranging for the child’s adoption by Ifunanya in exchange for N410,000, citing her inability to care for the child born out of wedlock.

Further investigation led to the recovery of the abducted child from Efunaya Nabufe, who had taken the boy to her sister in Onitsha, Enugu State.

Commissioner CP Dankombo Morris of the Adamawa State Command has instructed the Gender and Family Support Unit to continue the investigation and facilitate the safe reunion of the child with his family. He urged the public to remain vigilant regarding the whereabouts of their children to prevent similar incidents.
