On Wednesday 11 September, 2024, the Owa Obokun Adimula, the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran II, breathed his last at the Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital in Ile-Ife at about 4pm.
The monarch aged 87 had been slightly sick having ruled for 42 years.
The Ogboni of Ipole-Ijesa, Oba Omokehinde Samson Oyebade Oyeleye on behalf of the Agba Ijesa and in the presence of Alademure of Ibokun, Oba Festus Awogboro, Oba Odo of Ilesa High Chief James Gbadamosi, the Yeyerise of Ilesa High Chief Bola Ojo, Obaloro of Ibokun, Lemodu of Ilesa High Chief Olakunle Jegede, Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi amongst others, he eulogised the leadership qualities of the deceased Oba Adekunle Aromolaran.
Following the Ijesaland tradition, Ogboni of Ipole-Ijesa announced a 7-day curfew throughout Ijesalandbas from 10pm to 6am starting from Thursday 12th September, 2024. He equally pronounced the closure of all markets in Ijesaland pending the 7-day mourning period.
