The lawmaker representing Ife Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Abimbola Ajilesoro, has said he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress because of internal conflicts and the party’s instability.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Ajilesoro blamed the PDP’s internal conflicts and inconsistent political direction for his decision.
Ajilesoro made his defection official on the floor of the House of Representatives on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
In the statement, Ajilesoro said the PDP leadership in Osun had initially explored a political alignment with the APC, only to later abandon the move, creating uncertainty and confusion within the party ranks.
“Consistency is the true foundation of trust. Either keep your promises or do not make them.
“The PDP leadership in Osun had made overtures toward aligning with the progressives, but internal narratives shifted along the way.
“As someone who believes in political loyalty and ideological alignment, I find it untenable to remain in a party that covertly supports the opposition while presenting a contradictory public stance,” the statement said.
Ajilesoro pledged his full support for President Bola Tinubu and the APC, declaring his intention to work for the party’s success in future elections.
“Loyalty to one’s party and its leadership is non-negotiable in my political ideology. I have, therefore, chosen to align fully with the progressive camp and support the re-election of President Tinubu and all the APC candidates across the board.”
Ajilesoro resigned from the PDP last week in a letter dated July 22, 2025.
The letter was addressed to the PDP chairman of Ilare Ward II in Ife Central Local Government Area of Osun State.
