Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler, of Ijesaland Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup has reiterated his zero tolerance for land grabbing, urging police to remain neutral until the judiciary makes its decision on cases related to land disputes concerning government land in Ilesa and environs.
He re-echoed his stance on the subject matter when the Osun State Commissioner of police, Ibrahim Gotan paid his a courtesy call.
The paramount ruler noted that the city of Ilesa, known for its peacefulness, would have been embroiled in chaos last week due to the emerging conflict between the Leventis Foundation and an individual, were it not for his swift intervention.
According to the Owa Obokun, the city of Ilesa has witnessed certain inappropriate conducts in the area of land grabbing or public land appropriation towards the end of the tenure of my predecessor in office, due to his ill health and even up until recently by certain individuals acting as it were under the misguided and erroneous claims.
He noted that some of these people were flaunting relationships and authority of senior echelons of the law enforcement agencies to perpetrate their nefarious activities.
" Let me be unequivocal about my abhorrence of criminal conducts of undue financial benefits at the expense of the larger society. I will appreciate your full cooperation in addressing the issue of land appropriation as this is capable of degenerating into a major crisis if not nipped in the bud. It is important that the Police High Command and the lower constituent units operate above board in manners that are hardly impartial and equitable but seen by all and sundry to be so"
Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup also advocated for the creation of additional divisions, particularly in the Oriade Local Government area, citing the pressing need to address the large influx of people from other areas to Ijesaland.
" Giving the territorial coverage of Ijesaland and being the largest homogeneous linguistic and cultural entity in Osun State, I feel constrained to inform you that we have not been adequately provided with police locational coverage and presence. I would like to take this up in a close session, not too long a time to come, giving the sensitivity of the issues to be addressedHe commended the Ilesa Area Commander , ACP Ganiyu Alli for tackling head-on the activities of certain criminal elements who operate as cultists , notorious gan members and extortionists in Ilesa.
The monarch also lauded the Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, DCP Taiwo Yusuf for restoring peace to Esa Oke and Ilo Ayegunle Communities following the unfortunate communal crisis that occurred there a few months ago .
In a remark, CP Gotan expressed his willingness to cooperate with the Owa Obokun in the effort at maintaining peace and order in Ijesaland.
Gotan denied giving order to an individual to embark on a construction on Leventis land, saying he had never had contact with any of the parties involved in the matter.
He thanked the paramount ruler for applying wisdom in dousing the tension with the help of his men and officers.
Also paying the paramount ruler courtesy visits were staff of Diamond FM Ilesa. FRSC Ilesa Unit, PMAN Ilesa Branch, Ogedengbe Agbogungboro Descendants and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs as well as Dr Adenle .
In attendance were Ajirowa of Ijesaland, Chief Lateef Bakare, Obaala of Ilesa , Oba Odo of Ilesa, Ogboni of Ilesa, Lejoka of Ilesa, Yeyerise of Ilesa and other chiefs.
