The Iwude Ijesa Planning Committee members on Wednesday held a briefing session with Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland.
Issues related to the upcoming Iwude Ijesa Festival and the Ijesa Unity Carnival were discussed.
Chief Afolabi Igbaroola accompanied by Alagba Wale Idowu (Vice Chairman), Mr. Olubunmi Oladel, Erelu Jumoke Olafadehan, Mr. Oladimeji Lasore and Mrs Bunmi Ogunniyi announced that over 60 age groups (legbelegbes) have registered to participate at the activities lined up to mark the 2025 edition of the Iwude Ijesa Festival that will feature the maiden participation of Owa Ajimoko III since his coronation as the 41st Owa Obokun Adimula and the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland.
Also in attendance were Chief Lateef Bakare, Ajirowa of Ijesaland and Mr. Akin Ajayi-Obe.
The 2025 Iwude Ijesa Festival holds on Saturday 21st December and the Ijesa Unity Carnival follows at Ilesa Grammar School Sports Arena the following day, Sunday,22nd December.
ABOUT IWUDE IJESA FESTIVAL
Iwude means the gathering or assembly of Ijesa sons and daughters both at home and in Diaspora to see and pay homage to their king.
Aside sustaining the heritage of the people, encouraging the young generation to imbibe, preserve and promote their culture and tradition, the festival also creates a formidable platform for the people to rally support for the development of their land for the socio-economic benefits of the people.
On Saturday, 20th December, 2025 at about 10am, a carnival-like procession will kickstart from the Oke-emese ancient Adimula palace where Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup Ajimoko III, the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland becomes the cynosure of all eyes as he pays routine visit to traditional courtyards of Yeyerise, Obaala, Sawe, Lejoka and Salotun’ for offering of prayers and blessings.
Owa will be followed by a crowd that include palace guards, praise singers, chiefs, age groups, young and old, cultural troupes and a host of others. The procession displayed different cultural values and norms that are evidence of the unique essence and pride of the heritage of the Ijesa people.
THE IJESA UNITY CARNIVAL
For the first time, in 2024 a new dimension was introduced to the festival by the planning committee under the leadership of Chief Afolabi Igbaroola, wherein, Ijesa sons and daughters from home and diaspora will again gather on Sunday as from 12 pm at a CIVIC RECEPTION / IWUDE CARNIVAL at Ilesa Grammar School Sports Complex.
The Sunday afternoon-to-evening gathering is aimed at allowing Ijesaland Traditional Rulers, Elites, Societies and Associations, growing local talents among Ijesa youths and upcoming artistes, opportunity to pay homage to the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland in grand style and also to allow discussions on Ijesaland development.
