I first heard of Bro. Yinka Fasuyi in the early 1990s through the vivid stories of two of my bosom friends — Gbenga Ajayi (popularly known as Olowo Jebba, Ajebiri Ko Ko Ko) and the late Chief Oladejo Akanni Fasuyi, fondly called Adoko Mr. Money. Oladejo was his younger brother, while Gbenga --through whom I first met Dejo — once worked with Bro. Yinka at Supreme Management Training and Consultancy Services (SMTCS) Limited.
Through my close friendship with Dejo, I came to regard Sola Fasuyi, Diran Enang, and several members of the illustrious Fasuyi clan as my Aburos — younger brothers and sisters in every sense.
The stories about Bro. Yinka were both fascinating and, at times, intimidating. He was described as an unusual mix —tough, strict, shrewd, hardworking, and uncompromising — yet urbane, sociable, and deeply cultured. He was reputed to be as comfortable in the boardroom as he was in the best social circles, a consummate businessman and entrepreneur with a flair for excellence.
He could engage with Commander Ebenezer Obey in one breath and appreciate Pat Metheny in the next. That was the Bro. Yinka I “met” through stories before I ever met him in person.
Meeting the Man Behind the Legend
When Dejo passed on, I finally met Bro. Yinka in person. It didn’t take long to confirm that the stories were true. Bro. Yinka is an enigma — at once warm and fiery, flamboyant and corporate, stern yet compassionate. It is as though two strong personalities coexist harmoniously in one man, each excelling in its own right.
He is a go-getter — determined, courageous, and unyielding once he sets his eyes on a goal. He is unapologetic about his methods as long as they are lawful, and he is willing to challenge even friends and allies when principle demands it. Equally, he knows how to build new bridges and cultivate relationships when the mission requires collective strength.
The Bro. Yinka I came to know far surpassed the figure I had first encountered through his brother’s recollections.
Providence, deliberate intent, and relentless hard work culminated in the evolution of Bro. Yinka “Lington” Fasuyi into Asiwaju Olayinka Lington Fasuyi of Ijesaland. (For years, I thought “Lington” was just an alias!)
In truth, it was a manifestation of what I like to call the “Emilokan” philosophy long before our President — another enigmatic leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom I fondly describe as the Ultimate Ebora Naija — gave national expression to that phrase.
Bro. Yinka sought the Asiwaju title deliberately and deservedly, overcoming the usual intrigues that accompany such aspirations. Once conferred, the title gave a new depth of meaning to his life and to the very identity of Ijesaland.
The development awakening that followed the 80th birthday celebration of Chief Akin Akinola, the Sawe of Ilesa, became the platform upon which Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi launched a new era of community transformation — one that would redefine both his personal legacy and the trajectory of Ijesaland in this generation.
A Leader, Builder, and Visionary
There are lives that illuminate their generation, and there are men whose footprints inspire communities for generations to come.In Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi, Ijesaland — and indeed Osun State — has been blessed with both: a life of purposeful achievement, passionate leadership, and enduring impact.
As he turns 70, my Yeye and I celebrate not just a beloved Egbon (elder brother), but a journey of significance — a story of excellence that continues to inspire all who know him.
His entrepreneurial journey is living proof of what focus, foresight, and faith can achieve in Nigeria’s challenging business environment. Yet beyond business, Asiwaju Fasuyi’s greatness shines brightest in leadership — particularly his selfless service to Ijesaland.
As the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, he has not merely worn the title; he has lived it. His leadership has been defined by commitment, courage, and conviction. Under his guidance, the Ijesa Community Development Association (ICDA) has become a model of strategic community development — harmonizing the energies of Ijesa sons and daughters across the world to achieve remarkable, measurable results.
His initiation and coordination of landmark projects such as the ultra-modern Owa Obokun Adimula Palace, the Ijesa Geriatric Centre, the Ijesa Health Development Fund, and the ongoing Ijesaland Development Agenda reflects his vision of a prosperous, united, and self-reliant Ijesaland. He leads not from a distance, but from the trenches —mobilizing resources, mentoring younger leaders, and serving as a rallying point for unity, progress, and pride.
A Bridge Builder and a Brother Asiwaju Fasuyi’s influence transcends titles. He is a bridge builder across generations, professions, and communities. His ability to bring together traditional rulers, professionals, and the youth under one shared vision of Ijesa renaissance is a rare and precious gift..My relationship with him is not only one of admiration but of brotherhood and shared purpose.

At 70, Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi stands as a towering example of what it means to live a life of value, vision, and contribution. His name has become synonymous with service, excellence, and transformation. Through his work, he has shown that true wealth is not measured by possessions, but by the lives one uplifts and the communities one strengthens.
On behalf of my family, I celebrate a brother, a leader, and a patriot. May the Almighty God continue to bless him with good health, deep wisdom, and abiding peace to continue this noble journey of service to Ijesaland, Osun, and Nigeria at large. Amen.
