In a bizarre turn of events, two separate installations of the Aladodo of Aladodo, a traditional title in Atakumosa East Local Government of Osun State, took place this week, leaving the community in confusion.
On Wednesday, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III installed Ademola Tijani, an America-based engineer, as the Aladodo of Aladodo. Oba Tijani had just completed a three-day seclusion rite on Friday when a rival installation took place.
On the same Friday, no fewer than 12 traditional rulers from the Ijesa South Council of Obas, led by Oba Hezekiah Adeniyi Owolola the Adimula of Ifewara, President of Ijesa South Traditional Council, gathered at Adimula of Ifewara palace and installed Hon. Tajudeen Famuyide, a former member of the Osun House of Assembly, as the Aladodo of Aladodo. This dual installation has created uncertainty over who is the legitimate holder of the traditional title.
Also present at the installation of Oba Tajudeen Famuyide were, Oba Omokehinde Oyebade, the Ogboni of Ipole-Ijesa who doubles as the Chairman, Atakumosa East Council of Obas, Oba Cornelius Omisade Agboluaje, the Oloja of Ibodi, Oba (Dr) Adewale Ojarotade the Alaa of Ilaa-Ijesa, Oba Adedeji Olusegun Isaiah, the Tirimi of Iperindo, and Oba Olaosebikan, Agbadae of Igbadae, a member of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup's seven-member committee currently investigating various allegations of misconduct among Ijesaland chiefs, on misconduct, land grabbing, and boundaries disputes.
Details of the circumstances leading to the parallel installations are unclear, and it is unknown how the community and authorities will resolve the dispute. Both Ademola Tijani and Hon. Tajudeen Famuyide have been installed as Aladodo of Aladodo by different groups of traditional rulers, plunging the chieftaincy into controversy.
