The University of Ilesa (UNILESA) has expressed profound appreciation to the Ijesa Community for its extensive support and numerous interventions that have significantly enhanced the institution’s academic, infrastructural, and technological development.
This commendation was conveyed on behalf of the University Congregation under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, Ph.D, FCA, who acknowledged the collective and individual contributions made by stakeholders from Ijesaland to the growth of the University.
Among the key interventions highlighted was the construction and donation of a Nursing Science Laboratory by the Ijesa Community, as well as the ongoing construction of a befitting university gate by the Ijesa Elders Council. The University also acknowledged the donation of 50 solar-powered streetlight panels by Mr. Sunday Akintoye Omole.
In the area of student welfare and accommodation, UNILESA noted the ongoing construction of students’ hostels under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement by Mr. Akintoye Omole, alongside the construction of a medical students’ hostel by the Olorunniwo family. The royal intervention of His Imperial Majesty, Owa (Dr.) Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, was also recognised for facilitating the construction of a students’ hostel on campus.
Further contributions include the donation of a building for an Optometric Centre by Dr. Akin Fapohunda, who also facilitated the introduction of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics programmes in the University. The ongoing construction of an Entrepreneurship Centre by Mama Dame Yinka Obaleye (popularly known as Yinka Oba) was equally commended.
The University also lauded the Ijesa Country and Golf Club for the construction and donation of an 18-hole golf course, as well as Otunba Debola Osibogun for the construction and donation of a Moot Court for the Faculty of Law. In addition, the Ijesa Development Council was acknowledged for sponsoring vocational skills training for 60 Ijesa youths.
Academic excellence was further promoted through the endowment of a prize for the best graduating student in Economics by Professor Adegoke Olarewaju.
The University Congregation noted that these interventions have complemented the significant support and contributions of the Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, towards the establishment and development of UNILESA.
