Day 4 Highlights: Methodist High School Ilesa @ 70 Shuts Down the City With Walk, Visits & Football Thrills (PHOTOS)






Activities marking Day Four of the 70th anniversary celebration of Methodist High School, Ilesa were held amid excitement and deep nostalgia on Thursday 19th February, 2026, as old students, staff and well-wishers participated in an anniversary walk, courtesy visits and a novelty football match.

The day began with an anniversary walk led by the National President, Arc. Olugbenga Akintola, alongside members of the National Executive and alumni. The procession moved from the school premises on Ijebu-Jesa Road through Ijoka and Otapete Methodist Church, passed the Ereja Roundabout, and terminated at the palace of the Owa Obokun Adimula. The walk attracted attention from residents who lined parts of the route to cheer the jubilant participants.







As part of the day’s engagements, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Archbishop of the Methodist Diocese, Ilesa, where prayers were offered for the continued growth and success of the institution.




In a touching moment of appreciation for legacy and service, the team also visited Mama Eunice Adegoke (née Oluyide) and her husband, both members of the 1965 set. Mama Adegoke served as Senior Girl of the school, while her husband was once the Games Master. The visit was marked by warm exchanges and reflections on the formative years of the institution.






The celebrations climaxed with a novelty football match between Methodist High School and African Church Grammar School. The encounter transformed the school field into a lively arena of nostalgia, pride and spirited competition.







Dressed in customized 70th anniversary T-shirts and caps, old students arrived in groups, exchanging hugs and laughter as many reunited after decades apart. They took strategic positions around the pitch creating a festive atmosphere filled with cheers and school chants.







As the match kicked off, the alumni became passionate supporters. Every impressive pass drew loud applause, while strong tackles sparked dramatic reactions from the crowd. The presence of the invited school added a layer of friendly rivalry, with playful banter exchanged in good spirit.







Between halves, the old students shared memories of their days on the same field, recalling inter-house sports competitions and legendary matches of their era. Stories of discipline, teamwork and youthful determination flowed freely, reinforcing the deep bond they still share with their alma mater.


The symbolic significance of the match was not lost on attendees. Watching current students represent the school served as a reminder of the institution’s enduring legacy and the torch of excellence being passed to a new generation.


At the final whistle, Methodist High School secured victory with a lone goal, drawing loud applause from the jubilant spectators. Beyond the scoreline, the novelty match stood as a powerful celebration of heritage, unity and unwavering school pride as the institution continues its 70-year journey of impact and excellence.
