Popular Nollywood actress Ajara Lasisi, widely known as Aunty Ajara, has died after a prolonged battle with illness.
Her death was confirmed on Thursday by Nollywood director Tobi Oladele Teemony (Tee Mony), who announced the development in a statement shared on social media. According to him, the actress passed away overnight after what he described as a long and courageous fight with her health condition.
Teemony expressed appreciation to Nigerians and supporters worldwide for their prayers, encouragement and financial assistance during the actress’s illness, while appealing to the public to stop further donations as they were no longer required.
The sad news was also confirmed by the actress’s elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, in a video message, stating that doctors officially declared her dead on Thursday morning. He thanked colleagues, fans and well-wishers for their overwhelming support and reiterated the call for donations to cease.
Aunty Ajara’s death comes about a week after Nollywood practitioners, including Ronke Oshodi Oke, had appealed publicly for urgent financial assistance as her condition worsened.
Her passing has thrown the Nollywood industry and fans into mourning, with tributes continuing to pour in for the actress known for her distinctive roles and strong screen presence.
