The Iloro Youth Christian Society of the Cathedral Church of St. John, Iloro, in the Ilesa Diocese, has paid glowing tributes to two of its revered figures, Chief Michael Olumuyiwa Falomo and Chief (Mrs) Elizabeth Folashade Omole, describing their deaths as a profound loss to the Society and the wider Ijesaland community.
In separate statements, the Society eulogised the late elders for their immense contributions to its growth and their unwavering commitment to community development.
Chief Falomo, who passed away at the age of 87, was remembered as a steadfast pillar of support. The Society noted that he consistently sponsored the entertainment segment of its annual anniversary celebrations over several years, demonstrating rare generosity and dedication. Beyond this, he was also credited with financing several key projects that strengthened the Society’s programmes and impact.
Members further recalled his humility, fatherly guidance and distinctive elegance, often symbolised by his immaculate white agbadas. His contributions also extended to the Cathedral Church of St. John, Iloro, and broader community advancement efforts across Ijesaland.
Similarly, the Society honoured the life of Chief (Mrs) Elizabeth Folashade Omole, who died on February 3 at the age of 88. Described as a devout Christian, visionary leader and mentor, Mama Omole served as a former Vice President of the Society and played a pivotal role in shaping its long-term vision.
She was particularly recognised for her role in initiating the idea of creating a second arm of the Society for children of members—an initiative designed to ensure continuity and deepen spiritual engagement among younger generations. The programme has since grown into one of the Society’s most impactful platforms, with many beneficiaries now active contributors.
Mama Omole was also the Matriarch and Family Head of the Fariogun Fajemisin Dynasty of the Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House in Ilesa, and was widely respected for her wisdom, strong faith and commitment to unity.
While mourning their passing, the Society expressed gratitude for the exemplary lives both leaders lived, noting that their legacies of service, faith and leadership would continue to inspire generations to come. It also extended condolences to their families, praying for strength to bear the loss.
The tribute statements were jointly signed by the Society’s President, Dame Dr. Iyabo Fagbulu, and its General Secretary, Oladimeji Lasore.
The Iloro Youth Christian Society, one of the foremost societies of the Cathedral Church of St. John, Iloro, Ilesa, was founded in 1947 by Rev. S. O. Mafe, who later became an Archdeacon. The Society began with students from Ilesa Grammar School and pupil teachers who were members of the church.
Over the decades, it has evolved into a vibrant faith-based organisation known for its commitment to spiritual growth, unity and community service. Key milestones in its history include the introduction of rotational meetings in members’ homes in 1976 under Ven. N. B. Ajakaiye, and the establishment of a youth-focused extension, Iloro Youth Christian Society No. 2, in 1990 under the leadership of Chief M. O. Ayeko Falore.
Following the death of Chief Ayeko Falore in 2013, leadership transitioned to Pa J. B. Okere Ajayi, before Dame Dr. Iyabo Fagbulu emerged as the Society’s first female President.
Today, the Society continues to play a significant role within the church and the wider Ijesaland community, sustaining a legacy built on faith, service and collective progress.
