The University of Ilorin has approved the conferment of its prestigious Distinguished Alumnus Award on the Olumobi of Imobi-Ijesa Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sir Jacob Adetayo Haastrup, in recognition of his outstanding commitment to promoting the ideals, values, and image of the institution.
The honour was conveyed in an official letter signed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and addressed to the revered monarch at the Olumobi's Palace, Imobi-Ijesa, Osun State.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the University's Management approved Oba Haastrup's nomination following his remarkable contributions as an alumnus and his unwavering dedication to projecting the University of Ilorin positively through his academic engagements, leadership, and public service.
Professor Egbewole noted that the royal father has consistently represented the institution in a manner that has enhanced its reputation and strengthened its standing, describing his contributions as worthy of special recognition.
Oba Jacob Adetayo Haastrup is a distinguished graduate of the University of Ilorin, where he obtained both his Bachelor of Arts (Education) degree and a Master's degree in Public Administration (MPA).
Beyond his academic accomplishments, the monarch has played a significant role in strengthening the University's alumni network. He served as the immediate past Chairman of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association, during which he successfully revitalised the previously dormant Abuja Chapter of the association. Under his leadership, the chapter experienced remarkable growth and stability, while he also provided visionary leadership to the national alumni body for more than six years before handing over to former Federal Permanent Secretary, Chief Olusegun Adekunle, now the Asipa of Ogbomoso.
His tenure was widely acknowledged for fostering stronger alumni engagement, promoting the University's interests, and building a vibrant network of graduates committed to supporting their alma mater.
The investiture ceremony is scheduled to take place on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the University Auditorium, University of Ilorin, where Oba Haastrup will formally receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award.
The University expressed its anticipation of welcoming the monarch back to his alma mater for the historic occasion and extended its heartfelt congratulations, wishing him continued success while appreciating his enduring commitment to advancing the University's ideals of excellence, integrity, and service.
The conferment of the Distinguished Alumnus Award further underscores Oba Jacob Adetayo Haastrup's enduring legacy as an accomplished educationist, administrator, traditional ruler, and ambassador of the University of Ilorin, whose exemplary leadership continues to inspire both the academic community and society at large.
