Afenifere Leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti Dies at 100, Family Vows to Continue Scholarship Programme

The National Leader of Afenifere, a leading Yoruba socio-political group, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, has passed away at the age of 100.

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, announced his death on Tuesday in a statement he personally signed in Akure, the state capital.

The governor described the late Yoruba leader as a man of wisdom, honesty and great service to Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.

He said Fasoranti lived a good life and made important contributions to the growth of society.

“With a heavy heart but with total submission to the will of God, I announce the passing of our revered elder statesman, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, who departed this world at the glorious age of 100,” the governor stated.

Meanwhile, the family of the late Afenifere leader has promised to continue his scholarship programme, which has helped many secondary school and university students across Nigeria.

The Secretary to the Ondo State Government, Taiwo Fasoranti, made this known while speaking with journalists on behalf of the family.

Taiwo, who is the son of the late elder statesman, explained that his father started the scholarship foundation when he celebrated his 90th birthday.

According to him, the programme has helped many students pay for their education over the years.

He said the family would continue the programme and work towards helping even more students.

Taiwo explained that his father strongly believed in education and always encouraged people to support children from poor homes.

“Those of us who met him, his friends, his family members, colleagues and admirers should look for a child and educate that child. Sow into the lives of those people. Make sure people are educated,” he said.

He added that his father remained interested in education even in his old age.

According to him, the late Afenifere leader visited one of his schools just a few weeks before his death.

Taiwo also called on Nigerians to learn from his father's life by helping others and taking part in activities that would improve their communities.

He said his father believed that everyone had a duty to make society better through kindness, education and service to humanity.

The family thanked Nigerians for their love and support following the death of the respected Yoruba leader.

They promised to keep his good works alive, especially his efforts to give young people better opportunities through education.

Pa Reuben Fasoranti will be remembered for his leadership in Afenifere, his support for education and his many years of service to Yorubaland and Nigeria.
