President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has declared that Offa, Kwara State, holds a special place in his heart, recalling his youthful years in the community and the warm reception he received from its people.
Mahama made the remarks in an address delivered by his Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, at the maiden convocation of the University of Offa.
The Ghanaian leader recalled living in Offa with his stepmother, Madam Lucy Balogun, a daughter of the community, noting that the town’s generosity and strong communal spirit left lasting memories.
He also recounted his return to Offa in 2015, when the Olofa of Offa Oba Mufutau Muhammad Gbadamosi Oloyede conferred on him the traditional title of Aare Atolase of Offa Kingdom.
According to him, he accepted the honour with humility and a deep sense of belonging, further strengthening his connection with the historic community.
He also described the pioneer graduating class as a group whose place in the university’s history carried both honour and responsibility, urging its members to set worthy standards for future graduates to follow.
