Osun Speaker on Surprise Visit to the Ilesa Water Project's Site

Apart from the fact that the constitution empowers the House of Assembly to do an oversight on any ongoing project embark upon by the State government, the site for the construction of the gigantic Ilesa Water Project is located in Osunankara, at Irojo axis of Ilesa East State constituency that produced the incumbent Speaker of the State of Osun House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye. So on Thursday, 27th of June, 2019, he made an unscheduled visit to the workers on site to allay their fear snce he heard that some youth are disturbing the contractors at site when some of the indigenous workers were recently laid off and to inspect the level of the work done so far.

Speaking with the representatives of the construction company and that of the the youths of the hosting community, the Osun Speaker remarked that tge Ilesa Water Project is a very great opportunity coming to Ijesa people that should be embraced by all and handle carefully to completion.  The project is for the benefit of all therefore it is above any one or group's interest.

The project comprises of many segments like the construction of the main transmission line, the construction of the reinforced reservoir tank that are almost at 50% completion. TgevProject Manger in his words with the Speaker said, "We are constructing the tank. We have been working with the money they mobilized us with but as at last month we stopped for the reason of paucity of fund as we await the release of more fund so that we can continue. And this explains the reason why some of the unskilled labourers have to be temporarily laid off. He promised that the youths will be reemployed when full construction works start again at the site and that will be when fund is released again.

"The initial payment was advance payment given to us that was deployed to bringing the pipes from China.and every things that are required like pumps, the massive pipes to cover about 32 kilometers distance from Kajola  the main distribution line to the booster station at Powerline  where the construction of the tank has reached 90% completion stage."

Rt. Hon Timothy Owoeye seized the occassion to appreciate the workers on site and the State government of Osun under the leadership of Governor Oyetola for his magnanimity to make sure that work continues on the site reaffirming that looking at the processes from 2017,  one can see that the Osun government is doing its best to see to the betterment of the welfare of the people not only in Ilesa but across the State.
