Ijesa Sports Club, Ilesa has organized the maiden edition of Bamofin Mayegun Bunmi Adeoye Games Festival with lots of prizes and laurels won at the intra-club and inter-clubs categories.
The premises of the club was agog with lots of sporting activities on Friday, 29th September, 2023 as the festival attracted participants drawn from club members and other invited clubs that participated in table tennis, Darts, billiards and indoor games that included draft and Ayo Olopon.
The event also had in attendance the Club's Board of Trustees, Patrons, royal fathers, some past presidents, the incumbent President and his executive committee members, ljesa Sports Club members, invited guests and representatives of invited affiliate clubs.
Some of the invited clubs are; Socrates Club, Ibadan, Oyo State, Abeokuta Sports Club, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Oyo Recreation Club, Oyo, Oyo State, Inland Club, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Oyo Premier Club, Oyo, Oyo State, Ibadan Recreation Club, Ibadan, Oyo State, Akure Recreation Club, Akure, Ondo State, Osogbo Sports Club, Osogbo, Osun State and Senior Staff Club, Akure, Ondo State.
In his welcome address, the President, Ijesa Sports Club, Prince Kayode Adebusuyi Arimoro said organizing the festival fell in tune with the motto of the which is 'Sports for Relaxation.'
"This is one of its kind in the history of this club and we hope to continue in subsequent years." He said as he appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee under the leadership of the Director of sports Erelu Jumoke Olafadehan for a good job done.
The sponsor of the games festival, Bamofin Mayegun Bunmi Adeoye whose birthday celebration is attached to the event retraced the birth of the maiden edition in his welcome address.
"When I resolved to become a member of ljesa Sports Club, I resolved to give my all and be dedicated to the cause of this great Club. In recognition of my humble and modest contribution, Late Chief ldowu Korede (of blessed memory) - the deceased immediate past President of this great Club together with members of his executive conferred the position of a Patron of the Club on me. This was on 18th November, 2019.
"The beat goes on. Again, on 19th November 2022' another past President of this great club in person of Mr. Ayo Odidi,.... donated a Trophy in my honour to be contested for in Table Tennis Competition to be held annually to mark and celebrate my birthday, My birthday is the 1st of September.
"Surprise, surprise. Erelu Jumoke Olafadehan- the present Director of Sports moved the idea of widening the scope from Table Tennis Competition to a Sports Festival that will be Inter Club. The Board of Trustees the President and the Executive Members bought into the idea. This is how BAAMOFIN - MAYEGUN BUNMI ADEOYE GAMES FESTIVAL was birthed." He remarked
Highlights of the game events; Keshiro Taiwo of Ijesa Sports Club won the Table Tennis game, Olayide Akinola also of Ijesa Sports Club came second while Dosumu Sunday of Akure Recreation Club came third.
Dart game was won by Aro Samuel of Ijesa Sports Club, Kenneth Opebiyi of Ijesa Sports Club came second and the third position went to Akeem Taiwo of Oyo Premier Club.
The first position of Ayo Olopon game was won by Akinsusi Yaya of Oyo Premier Club, Adewumi Adelowo of Osogbo Sports Club came second and the third position was secured by Obadare Olaniran of Osogbo Sports Club
In the Intra club Table Tennis competition category Keshiro Taiwo came first, Aro Samuel was second and Abiola Babajide came third.
