ASIWAJU OLAYINKA FASUYI @ 70: SOWING SEEDS OF HOPE THROUGH AGRICULTURAL EMPOWERMENT--- ICDA-LEVENTIS PARTNERSHIP--- A VISIONARY LEADER'S STRATEGIC INVESTMENT IN YOUTH AND

As Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi celebrates his remarkable 70th birthday, the applause reviberates not only in celebration of a personal milestone but as a tribute to a legacy of impact, innovation, and intentional community development. From health to education, and from ensuring good governance in Ijesaland to humanitarian relief, Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi has left deep footprints across the social and economic terrain of ljesaland.

Yet, among these legacies, one of the most visionary and arguably one of the most sustainable is his bold intervention in agricultural youth empowerment, through a landmark partnership with the prestigious Leventis Foundation Agricultural Training School, Nigeria.

In a world where youth unemployment continues to pose a significant challenge and where Agriculture is often viewed as an unattractive career path, Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi chose to see opportunity where others saw abandonment. And through this foresight, he began rewriting the story of agriculture and youth potential in ljesaland.

BUILDING THE FUTURE WITH AGRICULTURAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The Leventis Foundation Agricultural Training School, which has operated successfully for over 31 years, is widely regarded as one of the most reputable and well-structured institutions for practical, hands-on agricultural training in Nigeria.

Its mission aligns with the goals of visionary development leaders: to equip young Nigerians with technical knowledge and entrepreneurial skills in modern farming, animal husbandry, agro-processing, and agribusiness.

Seeing the alignment of this mission with his own dream for the ljesa youth, Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi championed and facilitated a strategic partnership between the Leventis Foundation and the ljesa Community Development Assembly (ICDA), a platform he has led with remarkable foresight and results.

The initiative was bold in scope and rich in intent: to identify, sponsor, and train ljesa youths in the science, skills, and business of agriculture for a full academic year, with zero cost to the beneficiaries.

SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE

Through rigorous community sensitization, selection, and coordination, the first cohort of 85 ljesa youths was admitted into the Leventis Agricultural Training School in 2023. These were young men and women drawn from all six local government areas of ljesaland, many of whom had been unemployed, underemployed, or disinterested in agriculture due to lack of knowledge, training, or capital.

On Thursday, 12th December 2024, that dream became reality. The first batch of trainees all 85 proud Ijesa youths graduated from the one-year programme, equipped with knowledge, tools, certifications, and confidence to not only feed themselves but to feed their communities, create businesses, and become job creators.

The graduation ceremony was more than a rite of passage, it was a celebration of a vision fulfilled, a confirmation of a model that works, and a declaration that ljesa youths can be producers, not just consumers; entrepreneurs, not just employees.

These graduates were trained in:

* Crop production and management

* Poultry and livestock farming

Fisheries

* Agribusiness planning and marketing

* Farm mechanization and processing

* Cooperative development and agro-enterprise management

With practical tools and hands-on field experience, they emerged not just as agriculturists, but as agricultural entrepreneurs (agripreneurs), ready to drive food security and rural prosperity in ljesaland and beyond.

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES: SECOND SET ALREADY IN TRAINING

In most cases, such initiatives would pause after a successful pilot. But not under Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi's watch.

True to his principle of continuity and sustainability, the second set of trainees is already undergoing training at the Leventis Foundation Agricultural Training School with increased interest from the community, more refined structures, and broader support.

This shows a long-term vision and the willingness to build on success.

The goal is clear:  to institutionalize agricultural empowerment as a pillar of youth development in Ijesaland, ensuring that in the coming years, hundreds more will graduate with the skills and drive to transform the landscape of agriculture in the region.

A 70-YEAR LEGACY ROOTED IN VISION, ACTION, AND IMPACT

Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi's agricultural initiative is not just a programme, it is a philosophy of leadership. A leadership that sees beyond handouts to empowerment; beyond charity to capacity-building. It reflects his firm belief that development must be practical, homegrown, and people-centered.

At 70, many would choose retirement or rest. But Olayinka Asiwaju continues to lead boldly not for applause, but for posterity.

His agricultural empowerment programme is:

* Creating jobs

* Reducing youth restiveness

* Increasing food production

* Reviving interest in farming

* Building the foundation for agro-industrial development in Ijesaland

This is the kind of leadership Nigeria needs. This is the type of initiative that can be replicated across regions to solve youth unemployment and food insecurity at the same time.

A CELEBRATION DESERVED, A LEADER DISTINGUISHED

As we honour Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi at 70, the ljesa people have more than enough reasons to rejoice. Through his partnership with the Leventis Foundation Agricultural Training School, he has planted more than crops, he has planted hope, dignity, and opportunity in the lives of young people who may have otherwise been forgotten.

This initiative will long outlive celebrations, speeches, and ceremonies. It is the type of achievement that time will continue to magnify.

Happy 70th Birthday, Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi, A man who plants trees under whose shade he may never sit, yet does so willingly and joyfullv for his people.

Your name is etched in the soil, the hearts, and the futures of generations to come.
