ASIWAJU OLAYINKA FASUYI @ 70: EMPOWERING IJESA YOUTH FOR THE DIGITAL AGE THROUGH ICDA-RLG PARTNERSHIP

Leadership is best measured not by titles or positions held, but by the tangible impact it leaves on lives and communities.

For Asiwaju of ljesaland, Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi, his leadership as the Chairman of the Ijesa Community Development Assembly (ICDA) has been defined by bold, strategic initiatives aimed at creating opportunities, addressing critical societal gaps, and building a sustainable future for Ijesaland.

Among the numerous interventions under his leadership, one stands out for its long-term socio-economic significance- the facilitation of the ICDA-RLG Youth ICT Empowerment Programme, through which 75 Ijesa youths completed advanced training in ICT, telecommunications, hardware assembly, repair, and maintenance.

This initiative is more than a skills programme; it is a lifeline to employability, innovation, and economic self-reliance for a generation navigating the complexities of the 21st-century economy.

A Leader with a Vision for the Future

The modern world is driven by information and technology. From communication to commerce, from agriculture to education, digital skills have become indispensable tools for both personal advancement and community development.

Recognising this, Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi understood that the future competitiveness of Ijesaland would depend heavily on the ability of its youth to acquire and apply relevant technical skills.

However, the challenge was glaring, many young people in Ijesaland, despite their talent and determination, lacked access to high-quality, structured training in technology. This gap placed them at a disadvantage in a national and global job market increasingly dominated by digital proficiency.

Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi, always attentive to both the present needs and future demands of his people, set out to close this gap. His approach was simple but powerful: leverage ICDA's credibility and networks to forge partnerships with reputable institutions capable of delivering world-class technical training to ljesa youths at no prohibitive cost to them.

The ICDA-RLG Partnership: A Milestone in Skills Development

The opportunity came through RLG Communications, a globally recognised technology company with expertise in ICT hardware assembly, telecommunications, and technical skills training.

Under the decisive leadership of Asiwaju Fasuyi, ICDA entered into a partnership with RLG to create a dedicated training pipeline for ljesa youths.

The programme was meticulously designed to combine practical, hands-on training with the theoretical knowledge necessary for sustainable careers in the ICT and electronics industry.

Training modules covered:

1. ICT Fundamentals - equipping participants with the core competencies to operate and troubleshoot digital systems.

2. Telecommunication Technologies - introducing participants to mobile and fixed-line communication systems, installation processes, and network maintenance.

3. Hardware Assembly - teaching how to assemble computers, mobile phones, and other devices to global manufacturing standards.

4. Repair and Maintenance - enabling participants to diagnose, service, and repair a wide range of ICT and electronic devices.

Through Asiwaju's negotiation and advocacy, the training slots were fully sponsored, ensuring that cost was never a barrier for the selected 75 beneficiaries drawn from across the six Local Government Areas of ljesaland.

Selecting and Preparing the Beneficiaries

The success of any training initiative rests not only on content but on the commitment of its participants. Guided by Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi's emphasis on transparency and meritocracy, ICDA adopted a rigorous selection process. Applications were invited from across ljesaland, with emphasis on inclusivity, ensuring fair representation from rural and urban communities, and giving priority to unemployed graduates, diploma holders, and secondary school leavers with demonstrable interest in technology.

The 75 successful candidates were enrolled in a training programme hosted at RLG's state-of-the-art facility, where they were introduced to an environment of discipline, innovation, and productivity.

Impact and Opportunities Created

The ICDA-RLG partnership under Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi's stewardship is already yieldingbtangible benefits:

Enhanced Employability: The training prepares participants for immediate employment in ICT service companies, telecom operators, and electronics assembly plants.

Entrepreneurship Potential: With skills in repair and maintenance, participants are empowered to establish small -scale businesses serving their local communities.

Community Service: Graduates are expected to extend their knowledge by training others, creating a multiplier effect that spreads digital literacy in Ijesaland.

Economic Diversification: By equipping youth with non-agricultural, high-demand technical skills, the programmne contributes to diversifying the economic base of ljesaland.

One beneficiary sunmarised the transformation succinctly:

"Before this programme, I had no practical ICT skills, only theory from school. Now, I can assemble and repair computers and phones. I have a future career path."

A Model for Sustainable Youth Empowerment

The ICDA-RLG training is not a one-off gesture, but part of a broader strategy envisioned by Asiwaju Fasuyi to institutionalise youth skills development in Ijesaland. His leadership philosophy views youth empowerment not as charity, but as strategic investment; one that generates returns in the form of reduced unemployment, increased innovation, and stronger local economies.

Plans are already underway to engage the first batch of trainees as trainers for future cohorts, creating a self-sustaining cycle of skills transfer. This model ensures that the impact of the programme will multiply long after the current 75 trainees graduate.

Linking Technology to Community Development

For Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi, the connection between technology and community development is direct and undeniable. Access to skilled ICT professionals in ljesaland will not only create jobs but also support other sectors; education, healthcare, agriculture, commerce-through technology-driven solutions. From digitising school records to supporting telemedicine in rural clinics, the ripple effects of this initiative are far-reaching.

A Legacy of Visionary Leadership

Under the leadership of Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi, ICDA has once again demonstrated the power of collective vision backed by strategic action.

The ICDA-RLG Youth ICT Empowerment Programme is more than just a training initiative, it is a statement of intent. It declares that Ijesaland is not content to watch the digital revolution from the sidelines; it will be an active participant, contributing skilled professionals to the technology economy.

As ljesaland celebrates Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi's 70th birthday, this achievement stands as one of many testaments to his deep commitment to preparing his people especially the youth for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow. Through foresight, partnerships, and unyielding dedication, he continues to light the path toward a prosperous and self-reliant Ijesaland.
