Bl0odshed in Ilesa: Three Killed in Suspected Cult War, Security Tightened






No fewer than three persons were reportedly killed on Monday night following a suspected cult-related clash in the Imo area of Ilesa East Local Government Area of Osun State.


The violent incident, which caused panic among residents, was said to have occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026.


Confirming the development, the Osun State Police Command, through its spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the Commissioner of Police in charge of the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election, CP Samuel Erale Etaifo, immediately ordered the deployment of operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to the affected area.


According to the statement, the deployment was aimed at preventing further escalation of the crisis, apprehending those responsible for the attack, and restoring peace to the community.


The police also disclosed that the Commissioner directed VCRU operatives and other tactical teams to intensify patrols, surveillance, and intelligence-led operations within Ilesa and neighbouring communities, particularly around identified flashpoints, to forestall any reprisal attack.


Residents of Ilesa were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and avoid spreading unverified information capable of heightening tension in the area. The command further advised members of the public to promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the police.


DSP Ojelabi stated that investigations into the incident had commenced and assured that further developments would be communicated to the public as the investigation progresses.
