Distinguished Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, has denied making an inciting statement, saying a viral video circulating on social media was deliberately edited to distort his comments.
Fadahunsi, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Industries, said the clip being shared on TikTok and other social media platforms did not reflect the full context of his speech.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the senator said he was reacting to alleged attacks and killings of members of his political party in Ilesa and other parts of Osun State.
According to him, his actual statement was that if the alleged killing of party members continued, his party would retaliate. He said the remark was made during a protest and appeal for justice over what he described as repeated attacks on party supporters.
Fadahunsi explained that the viral clip was extracted from a speech that lasted about 24 minutes and edited to create a misleading impression.
He said he had referred to the case of a man identified as Rogba, who was reportedly killed in Esa-Oke, while discussing the broader issue of violence in the state.
The senator urged political actors to reject violence and allow the electorate to decide through peaceful voting.
He also appealed to residents of Ijesaland and eligible voters across Osun State to remain calm and participate peacefully in Saturday’s governorship election.
Fadahunsi stressed that democracy should be driven by ideas, policies, and the will of the people, not by violence and bloodshed.
