How my ‘Sunday Igboho reveals how his trusted ally’ leaked the secret about his cat to DSS

When I opened the door… they saw my cat on the bed. One of my friends that I entrusted with the secret had told them not to let the cat go.

Yoruba Nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has revealed stunning details of the July 2021 invasion of his Ibadan home by the Department of State Security (DSS) operatives.

He claimed a close friend’s betrayal led to the killing of his cat during the violent raid.

Igboho disclosed this during a visit to the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, at his palace in Ondo State. He alleged that the attack was a deliberate attempt on his life.

“When my house was invaded, they wanted to kill me but failed. They fired guns at me very well, but the prayers of you, my fathers, for me were answered.”

He narrated that after forcing their way in, operatives cornered his personal assistant to locate his room, maintaining that a trusted confidant had previously tipped off the agents about his cat, instructing them not to let it escape.

“When I opened the door… they saw my cat on the bed. One of my friends that I entrusted with the secret had told them not to let the cat go. So they killed the cat and wrapped it with clothes like a corpse,” he revealed.

The deadly invasion, which resulted in two fatalities and widespread destruction, triggered national outrage. Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka and numerous groups condemned the government’s actions as an abuse of power.

Igboho was later arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic while attempting to flee to Germany.

In response, Oba Ogunoye praised Igboho as a beacon of hope and urged him to remain law-abiding.
