Physically Challenged Edo Woman, Osun Lady, Five Others Jailed for Drug Trafficking






A Federal High Court sitting in Benin City has sentenced a physically challenged woman and six other individuals to a combined 93 years in prison for various drug-related offences.


The court, presided over by Justices Chuka Oboizor and J.B.O. Quadiri, handed down the verdicts following the successful prosecution of the defendants by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).


One of the convicted persons, Rita Idehen, a physically challenged woman from Oredo Local Council in Edo State, was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with an option of a ₦3 million fine. She was found guilty of unlawful possession and dealing in 2.5 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 1.8 grams of Loud, and 2.2 grams of Swinol.


In a separate ruling, Risikatu Tijani from Osogbo Local Council in Osun State received a 17-year prison sentence or a ₦4 million fine for unlawful possession of 8.701 kilograms of cannabis and 42 grams of methamphetamine.




Another defendant, Friday Robert of Owan West Local Council in Edo State, was sentenced to 15 years in prison with an option of a ₦3 million fine for the possession and transportation of 22 kilograms of cannabis sativa. The motorcycle used to transport the drugs was also forfeited to the federal government.


Etimesy Stephen, from Ndokwa West Local Council in Delta State, was convicted for cultivating nearly 0.6 hectares of cannabis and sentenced to 15 years with an option of a ₦1.5 million fine.


Salami Philip Timothy from Etsako West, Edo State, was found guilty of possession of multiple controlled substances, including cannabis, tramadol, swinol, danabol, and codeine-based syrup. He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment or a ₦3 million fine.


Christopher Tanko of Kagarko Local Council in Kaduna State was also convicted in charge number FHC/B/152C/2024 for possession of several substances including cannabis, methamphetamine, cocaine, rohypnol, and tramadol. He received 15 years imprisonment or a ₦5 million fine.
