Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi until some ten years ago was a hardly known entity in ljesa land. Thereafter he suddenly became a phenomenon after he emerged the first Asiwaju of Ilesa.
His transformation, at least to some of us, was one of the fastest in human development. He turned out an active and effective mobilizer of persons and a reliable manager of funds and material.
With these uncommon qualities he set the ball rolling by championing the erection of an ultramodern Owa's Palace in record time. This effort was seen as particularly significant because it followed a few years after a previous failed attempt was made to rebuild the palace after it was gutted by fire in the year 2007. That first attempt in which Asiwaju was not involved was a dastard failure. The rest as they say is history.
Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi will always be remembered as one who opened a new chapter of community activism in ljesa land which other communities can emulate.
I join others in wishing hima happy seventieth birthday and many more years in robust health and peace of mind.
