‎After a bone‑shaking, two‑hour travel from Ilesa, I finally rolled into Ita Apa on a road still scarred by construction. Two bridges are being rebuilt, and the detour forced us to navigate rough patches. By the time the convoy of buses, private SUV cars and many commercial motorcycles popularly known as "okada" eased into the small town, many of the passengers were visibly exhausted, dusted clothes and eyes heavy from the journey.

‎The weariness, however, gave way to a sense of purpose when they arrived at Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ita-Apa-Ijesa, Atakumosa East local government, Osun state for a historic ceremony: the installation of Chief Hon. Femi Kujembola as Baba Egbe Ijo and the investiture of eight new other chiefs for the rural parish.

The event was presided over by the Diocesan Bishop of Ilesa Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Prof. Dapo Asaju, who opened his sermon with a message that blended the challenges of the road with the spiritual journey of the congregation.

‎In his homily, Bishop Asaju praised the recent beautification of the church – a fresh coat of paint and three new entrance doors, marble altar and pulpit– calling it “a notable development” that reflects the faithful’s commitment to worship in a dignified setting. He also highlighted the Diocese’s Heritage City project at Ilesa, noting that more than 70 houses and 41 chalets have already been completed, and that the building erected by Alapa of Ita Apa, Oba Alexander Kujembola is now ready for official dedication.

‎“There is no community without governance; power comes from God,” he declared, urging members to “use your money, time, energy and resources to serve God.”

‎The newly installed Baba Egbe Ijo is not only a respected elder of the church but also a politician of note. He served as a former local‑government Chairman and is currently the Treasurer of the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). His elevation was attended by a host of senior APC figures, including Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, the Osun APC chairman, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, the former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Sir Chief Kunle, the Ijesaland APC leader Odeyemi, Hon. Festus Babatunde Komolafe, Hon. Titi Fadahunsi, Hon. Lanre Balogun and the entire Executive Committee of the party.

‎The ceremony itself blended traditional Ijesa rites with Anglican liturgy. After the oath of allegiance and anointing, the new chiefs were presented with their regalia, and the congregation erupted in hymns and applause. The nine chiefs, drawn from various lineages within the Ita Apa community  will assist in overseeing church affairs and community development.

‎Chief Mrs Julie Fajemisin was installed as Iya Egbe Ijo, Chief Evang. Wale Thompson as Baba Egbe Ajihinrere, Chief Olori Sijuwola Kujembola as Iya Egbe Ajihinrere, Chief Adedeji Olusola as Baba Egbe Odo, Chief Mrs Funso Obasanya as Iya Egbe Odo, Chief Obayomi Abe as Baba Egbe Aya Bishop, Chief Mrs Janet Adedigba as Iya Egbe Aya Bishop and Chief Dewande Moses as Baba Egbe Akorin.

‎As the service drew to a close, the fatigue of the road seemed to lift. Many of the travelers who had endured the rough journey expressed renewed energy, buoyed by the bishop’s message and the communal celebration. “We may have been tired, but seeing our church grow and our leaders step forward reminds us why we travel this road,” one parishioner who also traveled down from Ilesa remarked.
