The polity is on edge. Anxiety is written all over the milieu. People’s minds are in quandary. The Christians are fasting and praying for a change. The Muslims are doing the same. The Isese people are constantly asking Ifa Oracle through divination what the next course of action should be. The Atheists are worried and the agnostics are troubled.
For those who are praying, they have no evidence that their supplications would elicit any response. There is hunger in the land like it has never been before. People are afraid for their lives because of increasing insecurity. The governments at all levels are comatose. In Osun State, Local Governments have not functioned in the last nine months.
No one cares. If anyone does, he or she has not said it out. No one has done anything about it or planning to do anything about it. If there is anything to the contrary, it has not been articulated. The politicians have not shown any concern. Their focus is currently elsewhere. The people are not on the radar. Yet, there is a bazaar going on with the people’s commonwealth.
This is where Engr. Dideolu Falobi comes in. He has not worn any garb of being a messiah, but he represents a breath of fresh air. He is not a run of the mill politician, but he seems adept at politicking. A good mobilizer, dexterous at articulating his vision and mission for Osun State. He brings forth new hope for the people of Osun State. He is a package for new era.
Looking at the field, nothing says he could not win. Other candidates are formidable as him. But he stands a good chance because, as pointed out, he is not a run-of-the-mill politician. He is fresh. He is unencumbered by the usual picadillos that average politicians are inflicted with. He has a degree of "neatness" that makes him attractive, apart from the fact that he is working hard. He is relentless. He is focused.
Many are already writing him off. Their major reason is the same as why he could surprise us all – he is not your run of the mill politician. Running on the platform of All Progressive Congress, (APC), he is considered not “grassroot” enough to shake the table of APC to emerge victorious in the party primaries. But as this is being written, he is not an unknown quantity. He is mobilizing across the state and getting ready for the race.
A proud son of Osun State driven by a lifelong passion for service and a deep-seated belief in the potential of our people. His career as an engineer has taught him the importance of precision, planning, and building structures that last. As far as he is concerned, Osun State is a project that requires a solid foundation of integrity, a clear blueprint for progress, and the collective effort of all its citizens to build.
To be candid, one had felt that he ought to have been in the race before now. He had projected a valid vision for Nigeria in general and Osun State in particular. He has been articulating this for several years. One had encouraged him several years ago to make his vision a mission. His depth is recondite. His vista is vast. His horizon is commodious. All these are imbued with unalloyed passion.
He is being driven with consideration for the critical mass. He is concerned about the deterioration in the milieu. He is of the view that we did not need to decline to this level if we must. He is of the belief that we could turn back this clock of languish in economic, social and political wilderness of insensitivity and indifference to the needs of the people.
Also obvious is his integrity. The integrity of his vision and mission. The integrity of his intellectual encapsulation. The integrity of his commitment. The integrity of his dedication. The integrity of his passion.
He is educating his followers about the dangers of taking 2,000 or 5,000 naira and then suffering for the next four years. He is educating them about taking few cups of rice and beans and then going hungry for the next four years. He is explaining to them the importance of looking forward to something more enduring, more impactful and more forward-looking. He is underscoring the importance of a type of governance that would be result-oriented and cure inefficiency, incompetence and graft. He is educating them about the value of logistics in an election season and on the days leading to election. He is leveraging about their patriotism to heal their frustration about governments that do not really care about them and their concerns.
He is pinpointing that Osun has been managed with short-term fixes and a lack of strategic vision. He is stepping forward to apply the principles of engineering to governance: to solve problems methodically, to build systems that are efficient and transparent, and to create a prosperous state that works for everyone.
His mission is not to hate those who are well-to-do or those who are doing well. His mission is not to undermine them. His mission is to appropriate their desire to do better for the greatness of the state and to further empower the disadvantaged. To give the hopeless a renewed hope. To give those who are frustrated, a new lease of life. To imbue every citizen with a new level of confidence and trust in their government. To create new excitement and enthusiasm in participatory politics for the general improvement.
Over the past three decades, he has lived and worked at the intersection of engineering, business leadership, and community service. A graduate of the University of Lagos in 1987, he is privileged to be a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (FNISafetyE), and a Fellow of the Institute of Directors (FCIoD). Since 2005, he has served as Managing Director of Kresta Laurel Limited, one of Nigeria's foremost engineering firms in elevators, escalators, and cranes.
But beyond corporate success, his deepest fulfilment has come from community service. He convened the Think Tank on Nigeria (TTON) to mobilize solutions to our socio-economic challenges, and he founded the Ijesaland Development Foundation (IDF) to empower his people at home. From serving as President of the Old Students' Association of Methodist High School, Ilesa (2004–2022) to leading the UNILAG Faculty of Engineering Alumni Association (2020–2025), his commitment has always been to build strong institutions and give back to the communities that raised him.
Falobi’s vision is rooted in practical solutions. Industrialisation that is based on agro-allied products to generate massive direct and indirect employment. Applying engineering principles to governance can strengthen security, expand infrastructure, and reduce waste. He believes leadership is not about titles but about solving problems, empowering people, and leaving enduring legacies.
In addition, he believes this is a collective mission to lift Osun State to new heights. With competence, credibility, and commitment, he is ready to serve. He believes that progress in a state where integrity guides governance, opportunities abound for the young, security and prosperity are assured, and every community has a voice in shaping its future.
Dideolu Falobi is a miracle that could happen judging by his trajectory so far. In the end, Osun State might get lucky for a new dawn of authentic progressivism
