The Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the postponement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention, initially scheduled for November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. Justice Peter Lifu issued the order while ruling on an application filed by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who is seeking to contest the position of national chairman.
Lamido's application alleges that the party's leadership failed to adhere to its constitution and guidelines in organizing the convention and denied him the opportunity to purchase a nomination form. The court has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to participate in any activities related to the convention pending the hearing of Lamido's case.
The PDP National Convention was expected to elect new national officers, but the court has now put the process on hold. Lamido, a founding member of the PDP, claims he was unlawfully denied the nomination form, and his lawyers argue that the party's actions violate its own constitution.
The matter is expected to return to court for further hearing, and the convention's new date will be determined later.
