‎PARENTS OF UNILESA STUDENTS GROAN UNDER HOUSING COST BURDEN AS YOUTHS APPEAL TO OWA CLEMENT ADESUYI HAASTRUP FOR INTERVENTION

‎Parents of newly admitted students to the University of Ilesa are breathing fire as they grapple with the exorbitant cost of securing accommodations for their wards. The introduction of the university has led to a surge in demand for housing, causing rental prices to skyrocket in surrounding areas such as Ido-Ijesa, Imola, Isua, and Ibodi. Also affected are the surrounding areas of Ayeso, Kayanfada and Oke-opo axis of Ilesa metropolis.

‎In a related development, concerned youths in Ijesaland have made a heartfelt appeal to the Owa Obokun, Kabiyesi Oba (Dr.) Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, and esteemed elders to intervene in the escalating cost of accommodation in the region. The youths noted that the rising costs, coupled with heavy levies, exorbitant agent fees, and inspection charges, have made it difficult for residents, students, and parents to afford housing.

‎The appeal highlights the soaring rental prices in areas such as Ido-Ijesa, Imola, Isua, and Ibodi, with prices ranging from ₦200,000 to ₦555,000. The youths argue that this is unsustainable, especially considering the national minimum wage of ₦77,000.

‎The appeal reads, "We write to you today with a deep sense of concern regarding the escalating cost of accommodation... It has come to our collective notice that there are heavy levies on single-room apartments, a significant increase in agent fees, and numerous other inspection charges."

‎The youths are calling on the Owa Obokun and the elders to regulate these costs and make housing more affordable for the common indigene. They believe that with the monarch's intervention, the situation can be addressed, and the standard of living can be improved for the masses.

‎The appeal concludes with a plea for a favorable consideration and a positive response, expressing gratitude to the Owa Obokun and the esteemed elders of Ijesaland.

KAKAKIOODUA opines that the struggles of parents and students facing unaffordable housing costs can be a significant challenge and hope that the appeal to the Owa Obokun and esteemed elders brings attention to this pressing issue and leads to meaningful solutions.
