President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his trip to the 20th G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, and the 7th AU-EU Summit in Luanda, Angola, originally scheduled for today, November 19, 2025. The decision follows recent security incidents, including the abduction of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi State and a bandit attack on Christ Apostolic Church worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State, on Monday.
In response to the Kwara State governor's request, President Tinubu has ordered additional military and police personnel to be deployed to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. He has also directed the police to pursue the bandits responsible for the church attack.
The President is awaiting security briefings from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi State on his behalf, as well as reports from the police and the Department of State Services on the Kwara attack. President Tinubu has reiterated his instructions to security agencies to prioritize the safe rescue of the abducted Kebbi schoolgirls.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy), issued the statement on November 19, 2025, emphasizing the government's focus on addressing the security breaches.
