Students of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, Nigeria, have taken to the streets to protest against the high accommodation fees imposed by the university management, labeling them as "satanic" and exploitative.
The protesters, who expressed frustration and disappointment, claimed that the fees have not only become a burden on students and their families but have also led to a surge in rent prices across Ijesha land, as landlords use the university's rates as a reference point.
According to the students, the University of Ilesa has become the most expensive public university in the South-West region of Nigeria in terms of accommodation fees, a situation they deem unacceptable and contrary to the institution's purpose of promoting learning and community development.
The protest highlights the ongoing struggle between students and university management over accommodation fees, with students seeking relief from the financial burden.
