Ilesa East LG Chairman Presents ₦6.25bn ‘Budget of Renewal of Hope’ for 2026 (PHOTOS)

The Executive Chairman of Ilesa East Local Government, Hon. Lanre Balogun, on Tuesday, December 23, 2026, presented the proposed 2026 budget of the council to the legislative arm at the Local Government Secretariat, Iyemogun, Ilesa.

The budget presentation was made before the council parliamentarian led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Ismael Adejuwon. Tagged the “Budget of Renewal of Hope,” the proposal is designed to address key sectors of the local economy in line with the policy direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu aimed at strengthening governance across the three tiers of government.

Speaking during the presentation, Hon. Balogun described the occasion as a historic milestone for Ilesa East Local Government, noting that it was being carried out under the financial autonomy recently granted to local governments across Nigeria.

He recalled that President Tinubu, in collaboration with the National Assembly, approved full financial autonomy for local governments to ensure that grassroots communities directly enjoy the dividends of democracy, particularly in infrastructure development, healthcare delivery, and security.

“This budget is being presented under the financial autonomy granted to all local governments in Nigeria. Today, we are making history in Ilesa East,” the chairman said.

Hon. Lanre Balogun explained that the 2026 budget was carefully scrutinized by the Executive Committee and career officers to accommodate priority sectors, including agriculture and natural resources, social development, education and sports reform, works and rural infrastructure, medical and health services, general administration, and youth empowerment.

He disclosed that the total budget size for 2026 stands at ₦6.25 billion, representing a 25 percent increase over the previous year’s estimate, attributing the increase to the council’s plan to embark on major infrastructural projects across the local government.

The chairman also emphasized the need for increased Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), noting that the council could no longer rely solely on allocations from the federation account. He appealed to residents to comply with tax obligations as the council targets ₦120 million in internally generated revenue for the 2026 fiscal year.

Hon. Balogun urged members of the legislative arm to give the proposed budget accelerated consideration and passage to ensure timely implementation and delivery of democratic dividends to residents of Ilesa East.

Dignitaries present at the occasion included APC leader in Ijesaland, Sir Kunle Odeyemi; Hon. Akinola Fowowe; Hon. Ayodele Ogunyemi; Vice Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Kofo Omole; Hon. Gbenga Omoniyi; Hon. Idowu Falade; Hon. Titi Odeyemi, Hon. Akinyele Akintola; Hon. oluranti Ogunshina; the Women Leaders, Chief Mrs. Bisi Adebiyi; Mama Loja and Iya Loja; the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of D Division; and Johnson Komolafe, Secretary of the House. Also in attendance were youth leaders, ward chairmen, and party executives.

Observers noted that this development marks the first time in Osun State that local government chairmen are independently preparing and presenting their budgets at the local government level, following the implementation of financial autonomy.
