IWUDE IJESA 2025: Owa Obokun’s Royal Parade Set to Sweep Ilesa on Dec 20... From Palace Gates to Sacred Courtyards

On Saturday, 20 December 2025 Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup Ajimoko III will for the first time preside over the grand finale of the Iwude Ijesa Festival with a full‑day royal procession that will wind through the historic heart of Ilesa.

The procession will begin at Okemese, where the Owa Obokun and his retinue will pause briefly at the round‑about gate of the palace. He will be received there by the Risawe of Ilesa before proceeding to the Central Mosque, where the Alaye will welcome him.

From the mosque the cortege will move to the twin chieftaincy houses of Petelua and Yeyerise, situated opposite each other, for a short stop‑over.

The next stop will be Itisisin Junction, where the Lioro and Asa will pay obeisance to the monarch.

The Owa Obokun will then spend an extended period at the Obaala’s House, participating in spiritual rites alongside a number of lesser chiefs. The Kabiyesi traditionally feasts here.

A brief halt will follow at Okesa Junction, en route to the Idiose market axis (Ijamo, Ifosan and Oke Eso), where the Saba will await the royal party.

The procession will continue to Sawe Ijamo’s courtyard, where the assembled Ijesa elites will pay homage to the Owa Obokun Adimula.

At this point the tone of the parade will shift from a civilian march to a military display as the cortege proceeds to the courtyard of the Lejoka of Ilesa, the traditional Defence Minister of Ijesaland. Warriors from the Lejoka team will receive the Owa Obokun, escort him to their leader and perform a spiritual rite at the Owari shrine.

Leaving the Lejoka compound, the entourage will move to the chieftaincy house of Salotun, where the Owa Obokun will change his headgear and don the ancient Owa Ajaka Crown.

Finally, the royal party will arrive at a specially prepared podium beside the Central Mosque, where the Owa Obokun Adimula will address the Ijesaland Assembly and offer prayers for lasting peace. After the address the procession will return to the palace, concluding the day’s celebrations.

The schedule confirms that the Iwude Ijesa Festival’s grand finale will indeed take place on Saturday, 20 December 2025, with the Ijesa Unity Carnival slated for the following day.
