In a remarkable ecclesiastical milestone, the Diocesan Bishop of Ijesa North, Diocese, collated The Rev. Canon Festus Olakunle Akintayo and installed him as the first Archdeacon of Ere Ijesa Missionary Archdeaconry on Sunday, November 30, 2025. The twin ceremony took place at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Ere Ijesa, which now serves as the seat of the new Archdeaconry.
The event began with the foundation laying of a block of three classrooms at Love of God Nursery and Primary School, a mission school owned by the church. The project is part of the church’s ongoing commitment to educational development in the community.
The Venerable Adeoye, the Dean of the Diocese of Ijesa North East, served as retreatant and preacher. In his sermon, he commended the newly installed Archdeacon for his years of service and encouraged him to embrace his new role with renewed vigour and commitment. He reminded the celebrant that leadership in the Church is a call to greater responsibility, not comfort.
In his remarks, The Diocesan Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Isaac I. Oluyamo, commended the indigenes of Ere Ijesa for their contributions to diocesan development, particularly highlighting a dedicated group that has consistently supported the payment of the parish's Diocesan Mission Fund. He also expressed gratitude to donors of the new classroom block and announced the target date of November 30, 2026, for its dedication.
The ceremony was graced by distinguished personalities including HRM Oba Alowolodu (Elere of Ere Ijesa), HRM Oba Moses Oluwafemi Agunsoye (Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa) and his Olori, Prof. Theophilus Olowokure, Chief Mrs. Victoria Faseru, and officials of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ijebu-Jesa chapter.
The Diocese extends hearty congratulations to *The Venerable Festus Akintayo* and his family. It is our prayer that God will anoint him afresh for greater impact in His vineyard.
