The Chairman and co-Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC Governorship Primary Committee for the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State who double as Edo and Ondo states' governors, Senator Monday Okpebholo and Mr Lucky Ayedatiwa, have declared their readiness to return the APC to the government in Osun State.
The governors stated individually that: ''Osun State belongs to the progressives party and it is time to take what belongs to us come August 8th, 2026 forthcoming governorship election".
The duo made the declaration while addressing the party's stakeholders' meeting shortly after their arrival to the state as chairman and co-Chairman of the APC governorship primary election committee, held at the APC State Secretariat, Osogbo, on Friday.
Governor Okpebholo said: "This gathering speaks to our collective efforts and the need to further strengthen internal mechanism and reclaim Osun State into the progressives fold. Osun belongs to the progressives and it is time to return the APC to the government in the state.
"The purpose of this meeting is to formally brief you on our arrival and to intimate you about the modality for the governorship primary slated for today (Saturday).
"Transparency is key and we are ready for it. As you are aware of the model of the primary which is consensus. One thousand, six hundred and sixty delegates will converge at the venue of the governorship primary election tomorrow to affirm the candidate of our party.
"Let me emphasize that no delegate will be allowed without proper accreditation to ensure fairness, transparency and accountability through the process.
"I urge our leaders and members to give full support and co-operation to the committee. Let me appeal for unity, we must not allow internal division. We must continue to be united as a big family.
"I commend our leaders for their unwavering commitment to strengthen the party despite being in the opposition. We are proud of you. On behalf of the committee, I want to assure you that the primary will be free, fair, credible and acceptable to all", the governorship primary election committee chairman assured.
In his own remarks, the Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, also affirmed the readiness of the progressives APC to return to the government in Osun State come 2026.
In his words: "We have come to Osun State as we are going into another election and it is very important that everyone of us remains together because we have a great battle ahead and the only way to win the battle is through unity irrespective of who becomes the party candidate.
"We must all come together as loyal and faithful party leaders, men and women and we must stand by our party. After all, ballot paper on that day will not have the name of the candidate, candidate's name will not be there, it is our party logo, and that means that the party is supreme.
"If you believe in the APC, which I believe you are as faithful members, whoever the party leadership may be supporting to fly the party's flag, let's support and rally round the person to emerge as our governor because the primary interest of any political party if the party is out of power, is to regain power and if it is in power, is to retain power. It is a precondition before you can now fulfill your primary interest.
"It is only when your party is in power that you can aspire for anything and seamlessly get it. Each and everyone of you is a stakeholder from your various communities and we must go back to deliver the party and ensure victory.
"You are the eyes of the party across the state. It is time for us to work together as a united family and embrace this newness as we go into the election. It is time to take what belongs to us back, Osun is known to be for the progressives", Governor Ayedatiwa stated.
Earlier, the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal, had commended the leaders and members of the party for their unwavering commitment and dedication just as he reaffirmed the readiness of the party to work for victory.
The stakeholders meeting was attended by the gubernatorial aspirants, APC leaders and members across the state.
