The immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Bola Oyebamiji, was confirmed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
At the party’s primary held at the Ebunoluwa Group of Schools in Osogbo, two aspirants – *Kunle Adegoke (SAN)* and *Senator Babajide Omoworare* – moved a motion to nominate Oyebamiji. The motion was put to a voice vote by the primary committee chairman, *Governor Monday Okpebholo* of Edo State, and received overwhelming support from the 1,660 accredited delegates present.
Okpebholo then declared, “By the power conferred on me, I present to you Bola Oyebamiji as the governorship candidate of our party.”
The primary was attended by several state governors, including Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State (co‑chair of the committee), Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat representing the Lagos State governor, and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
Earlier this week, the seven APC governorship aspirants in Osun State stepped down after a late‑night meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, paving the way for a consensus flag‑bearer. Former APC National Secretary Senator Iyiola Omisore, who was among the aspirants disqualified by the party’s screening committee, announced his support for the consensus arrangement, citing guidance from President Tinubu.
The APC’s primary in Osun State is the first step toward the August 2026 governorship poll, where Oyebamiji will lead the party’s campaign to retake the state from the incumbent PDP government.
