The city of Ilesa radiated joy and royal splendour as the Ruth Aina Ataiyero Skills Acquisition & Vocational Training Centre held its maiden graduation ceremony at the historic Anglican Heritage City. The event, rich in culture, emotion, and purpose, paid glowing tribute to the late Mama Ruth Aina Ataiyero, whose legacy of service to God and humanity inspired the establishment of the centre.
The atmosphere lit up as His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, arrived to a warm and colourful welcome. The ceremony commenced with a procession of graduands, awardees, and instructors, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem, Ijesa Anthem, and other solemn hymns.
The Provost of the Cathedral Church of St. John, Very Rev. A. M. Fademi, led the opening prayers before the Director of the centre, Mrs. Gladys Olanubi Fadahunsi, delivered an inspiring welcome address.
Founder and patron of the centre, Prince Sir Samson Adebanjo Ataiyero (KSJ), in his heartfelt overview and charge, emphasized the centre’s mission of hope and empowerment. He noted that scholarships, working tools, and vocational support are provided to indigent students who otherwise have no means to pursue a stable future. In an emotional reflection, he recounted the life of his late wife, Mama Ruth, who devoted herself to serving God and humanity until her passing. He prayed for her continued rest in peace.
The ceremony reached a high point with the keynote address delivered by the Diocesan Bishop of Ilesa, The Rt. Rev’d Prof. Dapo F. Asaju, who spoke passionately on the urgent need for entrepreneurship and vocational skills in Nigeria. He emphasized that national development hinges not only on formal education but on practical skills that drive innovation, self-reliance, and economic resilience. He urged the graduands to embrace a mindset of productivity and excellence.
Prayers for the graduands, the awardees, and the Ataiyero Foundation were offered by The Ven. Amos Ajadi, invoking blessings for their future endeavours.
A moment of elation swept through the hall as scholarships were presented, lighting up the faces of recipients. One of them, Samuel, awarded a full scholarship to study Nursing at the University of Ibadan, gave a moving vote of thanks on behalf of all beneficiaries, expressing deep gratitude to the foundation.
In his royal address, His Imperial Majesty Owa Haastrup prayed for the graduates and encouraged them to make the most of the opportunities given to them, urging them to produce fruits worthy of the Ataiyero legacy. He also advised families to be moderate in childbearing and to prioritize the proper upbringing and welfare of their children.
The monarch further appreciated the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Prof. Dapo F. Asaju, and his wife, Barr. (Mrs.) Harriet Seun Dapo-Asaju, for their unwavering love for Ijesaland and their commitment to humanity. He prayed for the longevity and strength of their marriage.
The service concluded with closing prayers, followed by an official tour of the Ruth Aina Ataiyero Skills Acquisition Centre, where guests had the opportunity to see the facilities supporting the trainees’ development.
The grand ceremony drew an impressive gathering, including kings from various Ijesa communities who accompanied the Owa Obokun, commissioners, clergy, the Bishop and his wife, as well as dignitaries from diverse professional backgrounds.
