Court Remands 38-Year-Old Bricklayer Over Alleged Rape in Ilesa

A 38-year-old bricklayer, Olusola Busayo, has been remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre by a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, over an alleged rape.

Busayo was arraigned on Tuesday by the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Police on a one-count charge of rape, contrary to the provisions of the Osun State Criminal Code.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Adejola Adesuyi, informed the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on January 13, 2026, at about 12:30 p.m. at Peace Highland Community, Ilesa. He alleged that Busayo unlawfully had carnal knowledge of a woman with special needs at a building under construction, without her consent.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant allegedly induced and defiled the victim, an offence punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. I, Laws of Osun State, 2002. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Defence counsel, Kehinde Adepoju, applied for bail on behalf of the defendant. However, the prosecutor opposed the application, arguing that granting bail could expose the victim to further trauma and potentially aggravate the alleged injuries.

In his ruling, the presiding Chief Magistrate, O. Daramola, ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until February 27, 2026, for mention.

Speaking with journalists, relatives of the victim, who requested anonymity, alleged that the incident occurred while the victim was asleep. They further claimed that the defendant had been engaged by the family as a bricklayer to work within their compound and allegedly committed the act in the victim’s residence, despite being aware of her medical condition and inability to speak.
