Methodist High School, Ilesa, Old Students Announce Dates for 70th Anniversary Week

Old Students Association of Methodist High School, Ilesa, OSAMETHSI, has released the full programme and dates for activities marking its 70th anniversary celebration, scheduled to hold over seven days in February 2026.

The anniversary, themed “Methodist High School, Ilesa @70: A Legacy of Excellence, A Future of Greatness,” will feature academic, social, cultural, sporting and spiritual activities involving alumni, students, staff, government officials and community stakeholders.

Day 1 – Monday, 16th February 2026:
The celebration will officially commence with the arrival and registration of delegates, followed by media engagements, interviews and a press conference. Courtesy visits, stakeholders’ visitation, lunch engagements and a welcome dinner are also scheduled for the opening day.

Day 2 – Tuesday, 17th February 2026:
Activities will focus on community engagement and stakeholder visitation. The day will feature interactions with students and the media on the significance of the anniversary, facility inspection and guided tours with the press, seminars for teachers, motivational talks, health outreach programmes, and engagements with journalists and stakeholders. Meetings with Osun State government officials, community leaders and elderly pioneer members resident in Ilesa will also take place.

Day 3 – Wednesday, 18th February 2026:
This day is dedicated to student- and teacher-centred programmes, including professional development sessions for teachers, inspirational career talks for students, free medical check-ups for students and staff, and an intellectual quiz competition among selected schools.

Day 4 – Thursday, 19th February 2026:
Inter-collegiate competitions and a sports festival will take centre stage. Activities include career talks, a football match, and an anniversary fitness and awareness walk through Ilesa town, alongside courtesy visits to notable institutions and personalities within the community.

Day 5 – Friday, 20th February 2026:
The school will host its anniversary lecture and the commissioning of selected projects. The day will also feature the OSAMETHSI Annual General Meeting, where alumni development plans and matters affecting the association will be discussed.

Day 6 – Saturday, 21st February 2026:
The Grand Homecoming and Celebration will hold, featuring alumni assembly, cultural displays, mentorship sessions with professionals, a novelty football match between Methodist High School and Ilesa Grammar School, award presentations, and a gala night. The opening of an e-library and other renovated facilities, as well as the 70th Anniversary Award Night recognising outstanding alumni and contributors, are also scheduled.

Day 7 – Sunday, 22nd February 2026:
The week-long celebration will conclude with a Grand Thanksgiving Service at the Otapete Methodist Cathedral, beginning with guests’ arrival at 9:00 a.m. Special prayers will be offered in gratitude for 70 years of academic excellence, discipline and service to humanity.

Organisers say the anniversary programme is designed to celebrate the school’s legacy while strengthening commitment to its future growth and development.
