As we approach the scheduled dates, excitement is building for the 70th Anniversary Celebration of Methodist High School, Ilesa — a historic milestone that promises seven unforgettable days of reflection, reunion, service, and celebration.
Tagged “Methodist High School, Ilesa @70: A Legacy of Excellence, A Future of Greatness,” the anniversary will bring together alumni, students, staff, government officials, and community stakeholders in a rich blend of academic, cultural, sporting, social, and spiritual activities throughout February 2026.
HERE’S A GLIMPSE OF WHAT TO EXPECT:
Day 1 – Monday, 16th February
Arrival and registration of delegates, media engagements, press conference, courtesy and stakeholders’ visits, lunch engagements, and a welcome dinner to officially kick off the celebration.
Day 2 – Tuesday, 17th February
Community engagement takes centre stage with student and media interactions, facility inspections, guided press tours, teachers’ seminars, motivational talks, health outreach programmes, and visits to government officials, community leaders, and pioneer members resident in Ilesa.
Day 3 – Wednesday, 18th February
A day focused on students and teachers, featuring professional development sessions, career talks, free medical check-ups, and an intellectual quiz competition among selected schools.
Day 4 – Thursday, 19th February
Sports and inter-collegiate competitions headline the day, including a football match, career talks, and a colourful anniversary fitness and awareness walk across Ilesa town.
Day 5 – Friday, 20th February
Anniversary lecture, commissioning of selected projects, and the OSAMETHSI Annual General Meeting, where key alumni development plans will be discussed.
Day 6 – Saturday, 21st February
The Grand Homecoming and Celebration — alumni assembly, cultural displays, mentorship sessions, novelty football match (Methodist High School vs Ilesa Grammar School), awards, gala night, opening of an e-library and renovated facilities, and the prestigious 70th Anniversary Award Night.
Day 7 – Sunday, 22nd February
A solemn and joyful Grand Thanksgiving Service at Otapete Methodist Cathedral from 9:00 a.m., offering prayers of gratitude for 70 years of excellence, discipline, and service to humanity.
