The 70th anniversary celebration of Methodist High School, Ilesa reached a glamorous peak with a well-attended Gala and Awards Night that brought together dignitaries, alumni, and friends of the institution.
The colourful evening served as both a celebration of legacy and a strategic platform for charting the school’s future.
₦500 Million Alumni Intervention
In his welcome address, the National President of the Old Students’ Association (OSAMETHSI), Architect Gbenga Akintola, revealed that the association has invested over ₦500 million over the years in infrastructure development, academic support, and facility upgrades aimed at enhancing the learning environment.
He described the anniversary as a defining moment to consolidate past achievements while institutionalising sustainable development initiatives.
Akintola announced the formal launch of two landmark initiatives: the Methodist High School, Ilesa Endowment Foundation and the OSAMETHSI Charity Organisation. Both bodies, he disclosed, have been duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission.
While the Endowment Foundation is structured to guarantee long-term sustainability and continuous improvement of school facilities and academic standards, the OSAMETHSI Charity Organisation is designed to cater to the welfare and health needs of old students.
Royal Endorsement and ₦2 Million Donation
The presence of His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, alongside Olori Omolara Haastrup and her mother, added prestige and royal splendour to the evening.
In a symbolic gesture of support, the Owa Obokun officially launched the Endowment Fund with a personal donation of ₦2 million, drawing applause from guests and reaffirming the palace’s enduring bond with the institution.
Awards and Special Recognition
The gala featured a series of awards presented across multiple categories. Honours were bestowed on founding fathers, past principals—many posthumously—former executives, active set chairpersons, friends and supporters of OSAMETHSI, and distinguished alumni recognised for lifetime achievement, entrepreneurship, STEM contributions, music, public service excellence, and faith leadership.
Special recognition was also accorded to legacy families including the Onaeko, Familusi, Esan, and Fatimilehin families for their generational impact and sustained contributions to the school’s growth.
Music, Fine Dining and Celebration
Guests were treated to a variety of sumptuous meals and drinks in an atmosphere of elegance and camaraderie. The celebration was further enlivened by captivating live performances from old student Shola Testimony and her band, whose music kept attendees entertained well into the night.
The Gala Night not only celebrated 70 years of academic excellence but also showcased the unity, generosity, and forward-looking vision of the Methodist High School community—honouring a proud heritage while laying a firm foundation for the future.
