Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ilesa Branch, Pays Courtesy Visit to Owa of Ijesaland ‎(PHOTOS)

‎The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ilesa Branch, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, at the Owa Adimula Palace, Ilesa.





‎The delegation was led by the Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, His Royal Majesty, Engr. Olufemi Agunsoye, FNSE, alongside, Engr. Yemi Oguntominiyi, and other principal officers of the branch. Members of the delegation were formally introduced by Engr. Oludotun Fawibe.




‎Addressing the monarch, the Branch Chairman, Engr. Chukwuma Agah Ugha, noted that the Ilesa Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers has been in existence for 33 years and is one of the 93 branches nationwide. He explained that Osun State currently hosts three NSE branches located in Ilesa, Ile-Ife, and Osogbo. It was also disclosed that there are about 1,000 engineers of Ijesa origin currently practicing within Ilesa and its environs.




‎According to him, the branch resolved to raise its operational profile and impact during the reign of Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup in recognition of the monarch’s strong commitment to development.


‎Engr. Ugha highlighted several initiatives undertaken by the branch, including public lectures aimed at encouraging students to pursue careers in engineering, the award of scholarships, electrical installation projects, and ICT training programmes designed to reposition youths in Ijesaland. He added that the branch is also planning the establishment of a vocational and training centre to promote technical skills acquisition and adherence to good engineering practices across the region.



‎Further speaking, Engr. Oguntominiyi disclosed that the branch has already acquired land for the proposed training centre and is preparing for a fundraising programme scheduled for Friday. He said the event would include the sod-turning and foundation-laying ceremony for the proposed NSE Ilesa Branch Secretariat and Vocational Centre, subject to the goodwill and support of the Ijesa people. He added that the visit was also to seek royal blessings and formally invite His Imperial Majesty to grace the occasion.


‎The delegation paid tribute to the late Engr. Samuel Olatunde Fadahunsi, OFR, CON (1920–2014), a renowned Nigerian civil engineer and former President of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), acknowledging his immense contributions to the engineering profession and to Ijesaland.



‎In his remarks, High Chief Disu Oyedele, the Salotun of Ilesa, emphasized the prominence of Ijesa sons and daughters in various fields of endeavour across Nigeria. He assured the gathering that Oba Haastrup was fully prepared to lend his weight and royal support to the developmental projects of the NSE Ilesa Branch.






‎Other goodwill messages were delivered by Oba Engr. Olufemi Agunsoye the Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, who commended the vision and foresight of the branch, and the Oba Festus Kayode Awogboro Alademure of Ibokun, who described the Owa as a God-chosen monarch destined to advance development in Ijesaland.


‎In his response, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup expressed appreciation to the NSE Ilesa Branch for the visit and their commitment to human capital development and infrastructural advancement. The monarch assured the engineers of his continued support, stating, “You can always count on my support.”





‎The visit concluded with the presentation of gifts to the monarch and prayers for the success of the forthcoming fundraising and foundation-laying ceremony.
