Owa Obokun Pays Historic Courtesy Visit to Osemawe of Ondo (PHOTOS)

History was once again brought to the fore, on Monday, as the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, paid a historic courtesy visit to the Osemawe and Paramount Ruler of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Dr. Adesimbo Kiladejo.

The visit, marked by warmth and royal camaraderie, underscored the long-standing historical and cultural ties between Ijesaland and Ondo Kingdom. Both monarchs acknowledged striking similarities between the two kingdoms, particularly in street names and chieftaincy titles, and jointly pledged to further strengthen the bonds of unity and cooperation between their people.

Speaking during the visit, Oba Haastrup, accompanied by his consort, Olori Victoria Haastrup, emphasized that the Ijesa people have historically enjoyed a harmonious relationship with the Ondo people. He assured that his reign would continue to uphold and deepen this tradition of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.

The Owa Obokun also expressed gratitude to the Osemawe for honouring his coronation ceremony held in April last year, describing the gesture as a symbol of enduring friendship between the two royal institutions.

In his welcome address, the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Dr. Adesimbo Kiladejo, reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the shared interests of both kingdoms, stressing that unity remains essential for cultural preservation and collective progress. He further offered prayers for a long, peaceful, and prosperous reign for the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland.

As part of the visit, Oba Haastrup toured the Awosika Museum and Hall of Fame, where he was personally conducted around the facility by his childhood friend, Professor Larry Awosika. The museum honours the legacy of the Awosika lineage, which traces its roots to the first Loro of Ilesa.

Members of the Owa Obokun’s entourage included prominent traditional rulers and chiefs: the Obaala of Ilesa, Ogboni of Ipole, Alademure of Ibokun, Olumelu of Imelu, Salotun of Ilesa, Loosare of Isare, Likoti of Ikoti, Risa of Ijamo, Baatisin of Itinsin, as well as Chief Mrs. Dupe Ajayi Gbadebo.

The visit further reinforced the shared heritage and enduring royal relationship between Ijesaland and Ondo Kingdom.
