Prince Thomas Olaleye Ogungbangbe, Director General of the Osun East AMBO Campaign Organization and an aspirant for the Osun East Senatorial District seat, has secured the unanimous endorsement of the Forum of Osun East Councilors as their consensus candidate for the forthcoming APC senatorial contest.
The endorsement was announced during a strategic meeting between the frontline aspirant and members of the Forum of Osun East Councilors. In a separate engagement, the Osun East Ward Chairmen Forum also met with Ogungbangbe to discuss party unity, grassroots mobilization, and preparations ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Addressing the councilors, Ogungbangbe described them as the “Directors General” of their respective wards, emphasizing their critical role in determining electoral victory at the grassroots level.
According to him, winning at the ward level remains the foundation for overall electoral success in the senatorial district and the state at large.
“There is a reason why there is a Director General for Osun East. The councilors are the Directors General of their wards. If everyone wins their ward, then the election will be over even before it starts,” he stated.
The APC chieftain also congratulated party members and stakeholders on the party’s recent court victory, urging them to approach the forthcoming governorship election with courage, unity, and determination.
He stressed that Osun East holds strategic importance in the coming election, noting that the district could play a decisive role in determining the eventual winner of the August 15 poll.
Ogungbangbe further called for what he described as a “pathological quest for success,” charging party members to work towards delivering overwhelming votes for the APC across the district.
“We must work to clear 70 percent of the votes so that if there is any shortfall from other senatorial districts, Osun East can conveniently make up for it while still maintaining our own strength,” he added.
He assured both the councilors and ward chairmen that members of campaign committees for the election would largely be drawn from their ranks in recognition of their grassroots influence and political relevance.
“Our aspiration is not to damage the enthusiasm of the party. As we work towards the August 15 election, we hope to put our structure and strength to test for the progress of the APC,” he noted.
The motion endorsing Prince Thomas Olaleye Ogungbangbe as the consensus candidate of the Forum of Osun East Councilors was moved by Hon. Wale Odedeyi from Edun-Abon II in Ife-North and seconded by Hon. Olasore Oluwadamilare from Ward II, Ilesa East.
At the separate meeting with ward chairmen, Ogungbangbe described them as the foundation of the party structure.
“Ward Chairmen are the mothers that birth both aspirants and candidates. Therefore, Ward Chairmen are very important in this journey,” he said.
Notable party leaders present at the meetings included Apex Leader, Chief Emilola Ogunsanya (Feg-Agro); Hon. Olufemi Akosile; Hon. Obisesan Olasunkanmi; Hon. Ojeleye Emmanuel, Chairman of All Ward Chairmen in Osun East; and Hon. Fafiyemi Ismael, Chairman of All Councilors in Osun State.
