The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has pledged to reinstate the 1,500 teachers and 515 health workers dismissed by the current administration in 2022 if elected governor in 2026.

Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, also promised to facilitate the payment of their outstanding salary arrears and restore what he described as the dignity and respect of the public service in the state.

The APC candidate made the promise on Tuesday during a strategic meeting with the affected workers in Osogbo.

According to him, the affected teachers were among the 2,500 personnel recruited during the administration of former governor Adegboyega Oyetola before they were disengaged by the current government.

He maintained that despite the sack of the workers, the present administration had failed to adequately replace them, leading to manpower shortages in critical sectors such as education and healthcare.

The meeting reportedly drew enthusiastic reactions from the affected workers, who expressed optimism over Oyebamiji’s assurances and offered prayers for the success of his governorship ambition.

On the same day, Oyebamiji also hosted the overall best graduating student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Caleb Olugbenga Oladepo, at his office in Osogbo.

Oladepo, an indigene of Ejigbo Local Government Area, emerged as the institution’s best graduating student after earning a First Class degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

In recognition of the academic achievement, the APC candidate presented the graduate with a cash reward of N1 million and commended his dedication, discipline and commitment to excellence.

Oyebamiji said the achievement of the young scholar should serve as motivation for students across the state, especially those in public schools, stressing that hard work and determination could lead to success regardless of background.

The APC candidate, however, criticised the Osun State Government for allegedly failing to publicly celebrate the graduate despite the recognition he had brought to the state.

He also applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for establishing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, popularly known as NELFUND, which he said played a crucial role in supporting the student’s education.

Speaking during the meeting, Oladepo disclosed that he benefitted from the student loan scheme for three years at a period when financial difficulties nearly forced him out of school.

Oyebamiji further promised that his administration would pursue policies aimed at making education more affordable in Osun State.

He expressed concern over what he described as exorbitant school fees being charged in state-owned tertiary institutions, particularly University of Ilesa and Osun State University.

According to him, fees running into N1.5 million for some courses were beyond the reach of many residents and would be reviewed if he becomes governor.

The statement was signed by Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, Head of Media and Publicity Committee, Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council.
