Adelabu’s Sister, Twin Sons Abducted in Ibadan as Security Agencies Launch Rescue Efforts

The family of Chief Adebayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power and a leading governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her twin sons by suspected gunmen in Ibadan.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Adelabu’s Media Aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, the victims were kidnapped at about 7:30 a.m. while Mrs. John-Paul was taking her children to school.

The abductors reportedly intercepted the family and forcefully took away Mrs. John-Paul, 43, alongside her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.

The statement described the incident as unfortunate and disclosed that all relevant security and law enforcement agencies were immediately notified.

“Security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest. Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible for this heinous crime,” the statement said.

Mrs. John-Paul, the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu, reportedly served at the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before voluntarily retiring last year. She had recently relocated to Ibadan with her children while preparing to join her husband, Mr. John Paul, who had earlier moved to the United States.

The family expressed deep concern over the incident but maintained confidence in the ability of security agencies to secure the safe release of the victims.

They also appealed to members of the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and refrain from speculation that could undermine ongoing rescue operations.

The family further urged anyone with useful information that could assist security agencies in their investigation to report such information through the appropriate channels.

“We solicit prayers and support from well-meaning Nigerians during this difficult period,” the statement added.

The family assured the public of its continued cooperation with security authorities and pledged to provide updates as developments unfold.
