Fresh Political Row as APC Accuses Adeleke of Turning Condolence Visit Into Campaign Event ‎

‎The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke over comments he made during a condolence visit to the family of the late Ezekiel Olapade, the teenager who was recently killed in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.

‎In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party's Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the APC alleged that the governor turned what should have been a solemn condolence visit into a political platform by making remarks about his re-election prospects ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

‎According to the opposition party, the occasion should have been devoted entirely to mourning the deceased and sympathising with the bereaved family rather than discussing political matters.

‎The APC expressed concern over comments attributed to Governor Adeleke during the visit, particularly his assertion that he remained confident of securing re-election despite ongoing political challenges.

‎The party argued that the timing and setting of such remarks were inappropriate, given the grief surrounding the tragic death of the teenager.

‎The APC also faulted the governor for comments it said suggested that opposition elements might be linked to the incident, arguing that such statements could be prejudicial while security agencies were still investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing.

‎According to the party, it is the responsibility of law enforcement agencies to determine the facts of the case and identify any individuals connected to the crime through a transparent investigation.

‎The opposition party further maintained that the state government should focus on strengthening security and ensuring the protection of lives and property across Osun State.

‎It also expressed concerns about what it described as a rise in violent incidents within the state, alleging that the Adeleke administration had not done enough to address security challenges.

‎The APC urged the governor to allow security agencies to carry out their investigations without interference and called for those responsible for the killing of the teenager to be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

‎The statement was signed by Mogaji Kola Olabisi, Osun State APC Director of Media and Information.

‎The Osun State Government had yet to officially respond to the APC's latest criticism as of the time of filing this report.
