The All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council in Osun State has announced the suspension of the inauguration of the Oriade Unit Canvassers, which was earlier scheduled to hold on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director-General of the Osun APC Campaign Council, Hon. Oluwole Oke, the decision was taken following a tragic incident that occurred in Ede, where a truck allegedly linked to the PDP/Accord political alliance reportedly rammed into an APC procession.
The unfortunate incident reportedly resulted in the loss of lives, while several party members sustained varying degrees of injuries. The statement disclosed that no fewer than nine injured persons are currently receiving medical treatment.
The party leadership also expressed grief over the killing of Ajayi Rogba of Esa-Oke, whose death was reported on Tuesday. The APC described the twin tragedies as devastating losses that have cast a shadow over the party and its supporters across the state.
"As a mark of respect for the deceased and in solidarity with the injured and bereaved families, the inauguration has been postponed until further notice," the statement noted.
Hon. Oke stated that the party leadership has already commenced efforts to provide adequate support and care for those affected by the incidents. He added that Thursday has been set aside for visits to injured members and families mourning the loss of their loved ones.
The APC Campaign Council urged its members and supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding despite the painful developments, emphasizing the need for unity, restraint, and compassion during this difficult period.
The party leadership assured members that further information regarding the rescheduled inauguration would be communicated in due course.
